Open sights

Gentlemen, I am hoping to move forward on my "Speedish" sporter built on an 1891 Lee-Metford by our good and talented friend Von Gruff. I will have the barrel cut to 26 inches and rebored/chambered to .375 NE 2 1/2. I could stay with the original military sights, but can anyone recommend front and rear replacements more in keeping with the Lee Speed and BSA commercial sporters?

I think express sights would fit perfectly with that calibre. Recknagel has a great range online!

This one from Jeffs Outfitters doesn't look too bad and wouldn't cause the bank to notify the IRS on the transaction.
Would need the base modified from octagon to round for your application .
Looks like one standing and 2 folding leafs.
Maybe it's junk,,I don't know,,never had one in hand. Just something I came accross one time.

There is always this one Bill. I got a couple of sets in for a friend here and they are a nicely made sight. Not the classic Lee Speed fixed with 3 folding + ladder but will look good on your barrel.

Back when Jeff's was still Cape Outfitters, they had the express sight with rounded barrel contour.
Garry, thanks for the Sarco link. I see they are currently out of stock.
Will check Recknagel and NECG.
Really curious about the "proper" front sight. It's getting hard for my old eyes to use the inverted barleycorn any more.

I bought mine from Brownels in 1986. I'm sure they still have them. You can get just the 'upper' or the base which fits round barrels as well. I paid $96.00 just for the 'upper' in 86. The prices have not kept up with inflation.

This is the one I bought. They are now ONLY $155.00 for both pieces, top and bottom.

Thanks Daryl. Actually, my eyesight has gotten so sketchy that the idea of having more than one extra leaf is laughable.

I have the Sarco rear sights ,to go on my 375 2 1/2 " project.
They look a bit rough in the pic on the website but are nicely finished in the flesh .Looking at the 1912 BSA catalogue the 375 had one standing 100 yd leaf and two folding one ar 200 and one at 300 yds.
The sarco sights come with an island base but I reckon it would be easy to remove the sights and just dovetail the barrel and fit the sights directly into the dove tail on the barrel.Depending on the finished hieght they would look more original.

They come in one, two or three leafs along with the standing sight.

If you give me a few days, I can send you detailed close-up photos of what the express sights looked like for the BSA Lee Speeds that were chambered in .375. They differed of course from the .303 sights.

This is the sight I put on my new Uberti Model 1876 Winchester in .50/95. It got me right to the 1,000 meter buffalo on our long range. It fits a 3/8" dovetail.

Now I need one for my Marlin, .45/70.
