Wondering what the twist rate was in the original BSA Lee sporters. Can anyone help?

Bill,
Not a BSA but a C&H 1893 Dutch, I'm getting 1 in 8.5". I'd think the BSA would be similar.
Best

That's for a .375? Most I have seen are 12 or slower.

Bill,
Correct, a 375 2.5, proofs on the barrel are 40 Gr cordite and 270 Gr bullet. It shoots well for me, old eyes considered, with both cast and jacketed.

My Husky 98 mauser in 9.3x57lobs a 286 grain softpoint at approx 2050 feet per second. I believe the 375 flanged nitro express 2 1/2 shoots the 270 grain bullet a roughly 1900 feet per second and my husky has a 1x14 twist. And I believe that the 9.3x57 does this at 40K pressure. Frank

Not a Lee Speed, but my J. Burrow Farquharson in .375 2 1/2" Fl. has a 1:16" left-hand twist, 7 groove, Engield rifling.

It shoots a 265 gr. 0.97" RNFPGC water-quenched w/w bullet (45.0 gr. RL-15) to point of aim;
old 300 gr. Hornady RNSP about 4-5" low; and a
335 gr. cast bullet (old Lyman mould) about 12" low.
All at 50 yds. using the 50 yd. fixed leaf.
