thats how I have seen this, the elk comes with the elk dog in his foot prints

dont think it was a charge, after being shot the animal lost self control and runing in any direction possible - this time to the hunter

Same here. Looks to me like the final run line was just past the hunter. Not saying the Moose would not of swung antlers at hunter. This appearance could be because it is seen in 2 dimension and from one angle only.

Exciting video but absolutely is not a charge.

Exciting to have the moose fall on your feet like that!

If the guy was shooting a 6.5x55 and actually knew how to shoot, it would not have got that far.

Agree--NOT a charge--but made for an exciting headline...

Moose headed out not knowing where the hunter actually was..

With the dog chasing it - confused animal.
When I saw/heard the dog, I thought, must be Scandinavia. Not allowed here.

They can be used for tracking wounded animals, not for corralling/chasing them to the hunter.

Adrenaline can just keep a body going way past any normal parameters, especially in endurance & strength.
That moose certainly wasn't a small one by any standard, being shot & having a dog right behind didn't help!
When you think of it dogs (domesticated wolves initially) have been doing just that for us humans for millennia, that dog was just using its instincts & herding the game back to the hunter!
Yes it wasn't a charge, but coming in like that & not dropping until right on top of the hunter certainly would have been an "OH SHIT" moment for sure.

Wow. I didn't know that. I figured you guys could use dogs on bear.

We can use bait and use dogs to hunt bear & lion but not deer, elk or moose, but we can use them for tracking wounded big game here.

Here's my Lab on a cow elk just the other day. It was shot in high huckleberry brush. Hunter called he shot good and looked for over an hour but found no blood and tracks were all over the place by a large herd going all directions. My dog walked straight to it like she'd been there a hundred times. Only went 70 yards or so, too, but switched directions. Hunter said he had been w/in 30 yards of it but didn't see it! I'm convinced a ton of game is lost in thick timber and brush that is hit hard and well that goes down within a couple hundred yards or so that folks look for but without a dog just can't find.

Anyway, really interesting video.

Yes- I agree, Rod - it was a good video.
I had a friend from down South visiting with me up here & went hunting in an area I'd showed him before I had to go to work. After I got off work, he was back at the house and had shot a mule deer buck.
We went back out just before dark with my springer to find the deer. We went down to the spot he figured the deer was when he's shot - a good 175-200 yards down into a slash of high weeds, stumps and branches, no blood but he insisted he'd hit it with his .300 Savage with 200gr. RN ST's. Same factory ammo he'd used for moose the year before. He pointed the direction the deer took off to, so I pointed my dog in that direction, and simply said "Find the bird". She went straight to it, just like your lab, Rod. The deer had gone about 60yards in really thick shin-tangle, but my little bird dog found it. We gutted it out and carried it back to my truck.

Used one of my wirehairs back a few years ago to find a bow shot elk.. was a long haul.. over mile..but we found him.. to my knowledge a dog can be used to retrieve ..

I watched the video again..what's up with the size of the bolt on that rifle..I've had smaller gear shift levers on cars..

I know, I know, easier to grab with gloves in cold weather.. but really??

Common on Scandi hunting and target rifles.

Makes a ton of sense, too. Very easy to work the bolt.

That's one of dem tactical bolt andles. For dem tactical rifles. Chambered in dem modern really cool cartridges like Credmore!

Some notes re the film.

The moose wasn't running until after it was first shot. It was walking ambling along with an annoying barking dog jumping around it. The elg, alg or moose don't necessarily run along when the elk hound finds it. It may just walk along. The barking dog locates it, or the tracking collar on the dog, showing the hunters using their mobile phones where the dog and moose is. Or the hunter which follows the dog.

The dog was not herding the moose to the hunter. The blocking hunters are pre-positioned on likely escape routes . The shot moose, not shot well, so just running uphill to escape whatever had shot it. Just happened to serve towards the guy. The last shot may have boned a bone, spined the moose, whatever. Shot at almost end of muzzle range.

The guys histronics at the end to me are annoying. This dude will be telling the storu every week and every year to "admiring" other hunters ....

Yes a moose or any animal might run metres of r even a hundred metres when shot. my moose, heart shot run 20 or 25 metres.

I shot a hog deer and it acted similar to the moose. Run uphill after being shot, straight at me CHARGING! When it saw me swerved tot he side, and crashed in to extremely thick ferns and pulled up short dead.

A big moose in the same, yes, would have been even more exciting.

Good video for sure, but could have been a great video had the cameraman not lost his nerve and sh!t himself at the critical moment! Would like to have actually seen the moose "thunderstruck"...
