So is this new model in addition to the 88, 88B, and 88B Safari, or is this a new replacement? What is the price point? Calibers? Weight?

So what make it so special when the 88B is REALLY great and dam near perfection?????

More info from Chris Sells of HEYM USA:

"Thanks to all for the compliments on the rifle. We have worked very hard on it, and we are very proud of the end result. Here are a few answers to some of the posted questions:

Engraving. There is no laser engraving on any HEYM 88 or 89 double rifle. Serial numbers are CNC engraved on the action and water table, but ALL external markings/engravings on the 89B are done by hand. This was a requirement for this model.

Unlike the 88B, there will be no "PH" / unengraved version available for the 89B. The 89B will have to leave the factory with either the #1 engraving pattern (least coverage) or with case colors at a minimum.

Price-wise, the 89 is a little more expensive than the 88. You will find the base model 89 to fit between the "PH" grade and the "Safari" grade (assuming you're familiar with the 88 lineup.) That means there is a target for the base model 89 under 20K, but as more engraving, nicer wood, etc... are added, the price will naturally increase.

We will release more details on the rifle over the next few weeks."

The website has been updated- www.heymusa.com.

Attached is the link to the video specifically about 89B.

Generally speaking I try not to think about DRs simply because, frankly, I can't afford them but notwithstanding all of that, I feel compelled to say that if I could afford a new one, one of the more reasonably priced non-British ones (sigh), it probably would be that Heym - the new 89B. That is a very nice looking thing.

One of those, in .303 Brit, and I'd be soooo very happy.

Wow!!! Heym really knocked it out of the park with this one!!! In my experience, the 88B is extremely accurate, well regulated and beautifully built in all aspects.

With this new 89B, the styling changes are at least to my eye stunningly beautiful and take an incredible rifle to styling perfection.

The one feature I don't see are cocking indicators. On the 88B, they may have been somewhat untraditional, sticking up out of the top of the receiver on either side of the opening lever the way they do, but to me they are very useful and easy to read, simply by feel.

The other glaring omission is a sidelock version. The new web site shows no side locks at all...... I wonder if Heym has exited the sidelock market, or if this is simply a marketing nuance of how the web site was built? Maybe an 89B sidelock is not ready for release yet and they have removed the 88B side lock from view on the web site so as not to distract attention away from this new rifle? I honestly can't imagine Heym walking away from the side lock market to focus just on box locks? I would imagine that box locks steadily outsell side locks, so it makes sense to focus efforts in that direction, but when playing in the very high end rifle market, one would expect to see side locks.

Me too!!!!

Their bolt Safari rifle is a work of art. But it's not even remotely cheap or inexpensive!!!! With a few small add ons to the base $10k rifle, and you're looking at paying a price equivalent to a brand new Toyota Corolla. Just 'cause it's a bolt rifle, don't assume "lower end". Let me add that it's also worth every penny!!!!!

Not from Heym, so just my opinion. Firstly a sidelock would be a completely different action. Heym could probably make a side-plate version of the this action on a custom order, is my guess anyway.

Thank you John for your explanation on the actions.

Yes, the website is a work in progress-

No, Postman,
an 89B sidelock has not been designed-----yet.

The number of sidelock orders on the 88B were a very small fraction of the total production.

And is available--
just did not include it or the 80B, the 26B or the SR 21 on the current US site--
for the same reason --small US volume--

as the site evolves --
perhaps,
they and the JUMBO sidelock which is is still available in 500,577,600,
may be added to the new site at a future date.

Chris may chime in later-

Ripp,
The guns for DSC and SCI are just beginning to arrive.
Schedule is a bit hectic at the moment.
Chris will be in and out of Dallas this month, perhaps a demo could be arranged in Dallas between now and DSC, it would be a tight timeline, if it could be accomplished.

More info from Chris:

"Thanks again to everyone for their patience.

To finalize all of the pricing, we must first engrave one in each available grade of engraving. That is being finished now, and we will have pricing on all grades in the next few weeks (in advance of the shows.)

The target price for the first grade is just under 20K.

The 89 costs a little more than the 88, but it also comes with more standard features than the 88.

I absolutely love peep sights! This is the first I've seen them installed on a double rifle..... That would make for some very fast target aquisition with a nice white ivory bead!!!!!!

The inletted swivel looks pretty darn nice as well!!

It would appear to me that Heym is building a world class double. I'm not sure that the continental builders would ever command the astronomical prices of the bespoke English finest such as H&H, but it sure looks like they aren't giving up much of anything in the way of either functionality, build quality or style...... VERY nicely executed, and at around $20k, it's a damn stretch cheaper than an H&H that crowds $200k!!!

From Chris:
"I always hand-select the wood for our show rifles, and I generally upgrade them too (who doesn't like pretty wood, right?)

Here are a couple of examples of wood that we will have on the new 89B.

470 NE on the top
500 NE on the bottom

I'm tempted to hang on to one of these two for myself! "

Hey Art, this one also caught my eye at Dallas.

Not wrong about the timber - a most beautiful selection shown & magnificent work to get them to such a point of perfection, we can only guess hundreds of hours work just on each stock alone!
Certainly beautiful pieces of kit anyone would love to have a crack at owning!
Pipe dream for me, but one can always hope can't they!
