Freedom Arms..
http://www.freedomarms.com/
..

Picked this guy up yesterday at a local gun shop.. was used, owned by the owner of the gun shop..

AS I go on long rides on the horse early mornings or later in the day checking cattle, fences, etc..Figured I'd carry something that will stop anything I might bump into.. think this should do.. and have wanted a Freedom Arms for a long time.. just didn't want to pay for a new one.. so, when I saw this yesterday it come home with me.. Cool part is I can also shoot 45 Long Colt in it as well...

OH, and I picked up a light load of Buffalo Bore for it as well..

1,425 fps with a 360 - not THAT light. Looks like a good mad bull and grizzly load.
That ought to rotate up pretty high.
NICE!

I'd have thought you might prefer the 5" .500 S&W Mag. The one I shot didn't kick as much as my 4" M29(with round-butt grips)

I checked out the S&W 460 and 500 in the X-Frames.. have to say I am not a fan.. way too top heavy.. do not feel good for natural point of aim for me.. this one does..and I am a serious fan of the brass tip front sight...feel confident if shot placement is good, bear will take notice..

You are right, the single action frame just seems to fit & point, no matter who makes it.

Nice grab!

It looks like he took the sharp edges off the gun too. They can be pretty crisp out of the box.

I agree on the X-Frame. Not really a daily holster gun, and they don't handle like the nice compact single action guns.

Im a huge fan of the Freedoms. At one point I had 4 of them. Im down to one now, its a 7 1/2" model. I almost never carry it because its kinda large (even for me), for a back up to a long gun. I drove with it from Maryland to Texas in a crossdraw holster. It was comfortable enough; but still BIG.

I doubt that I'll ever hunt with it as my primary gun, which may have been my original thought (I dont remember). I have hunted with T/C Contenders and Encores; but never the Freedom.

Ive been tempted to have it shortened to 5 1/2" or even 4 5/8" to make carrying more easy and likely. I do occasionally carry SAAs (3 1/2 and 5 1/2) guns. My other SAAs are 45LC, so I dont feel under-gunned outside of Big Bear country.....BUT I keep thinking the 7 1/2" gun is sitting in the safe waiting to be carried???

I was wondering what sort of "6-gun" our resident NE cowboy was wearing in a holster on his hip.

And oh for the days when I could walk into a gunshop, andwalk out with a firearm (though not a handgun). I am so old I remember those days !!!! (like most of us here. )

Ripp:

I've shot a fair amount of Buffalo Bore ammo, and can tell you their posted velocities are conservative. When I'm bow hunting I carry a stainless Kimber 45 loaded with Buffalo bore 45 supers.
a 230 gr truncated cone bullet at 1100fps from a 4" barrel.

Yes indeed..I have been told that on more than one occasion..

Like you, anytime I head to the woods I am loaded with Buffalo Bore.. whether its 9mm, 10mm, 45auto, 357, 44 mag or 454.. its just dependable and works.. ask Phil Shoemaker in Alaska.. 9mm killed a charging griz sow.. most impressive..

Mate, can I share this image with a horsey female who also shoots here in Australia. On her fb page?

Good setup for the apocalypse when horses because primary modes of transport again.

BTW what is the AR? Is it 5.56 or say .500 Blackout? Or 6.5mm of some sort? Or?

Had a somewhat interesting/amusing event happen with this. I was practicing with this new handgun.. shooting flipper targets mounted on a treated 4"x4" by 6 ft long piece of treated lumber --started with shooting standard 45 Long Colt ammo--flipping them just fine.. once empty I reloaded with the Buffalo Bores discussed above.. actually shot high on the first shot..lowered my point of aim and fired again at the center target.. connected --however instead of flipping the single target..the entire target set with all three flippers tipped over along with the 6ft piece of lumber they were attached to.. THAT is some serious muzzle energy..

Kinetic energy might not work in the same manner with animals, but can be quite "telling" on steel and wood.
Fun!!!

Hey Ripp! Really nice find in a great caliber and it looks like it has been customized with a few factory upgrades. Along with the fluted cylinders, it looks your revolver has the express sights and the rounded butt on the grip frame. Very smart additions to an already very nice and very versatile single-action.

Have fun!

.45ACP Cylinder - that is interesting indeed.
My bear load for my semi/almost-custom .45 1911 was 12.0gr. 630 and the 260 Speer HP - ran 960fps in the 5" Wilson bl. Killed a good sized boar black bear with that load, side lung shot, dropped in his tracks - about 20 or so yards.
That would be an easy load for the wheelgun, low recoil and lots of fun shooting. Incidentally, it was the re-sized 300gr.RCBS cast FN's with 7.7gr. Blue Dot that cracked the frame of the 1911. Check drilled the crack and it never moved after that.

Per the Freedom Arms website, additional cylinders for the Model 83 .454 Casull are available in .45 ACP (factory installed). Fairly reasonably priced also.
