Do any of you blokes and girls fish?

What about when on safari - ever done any fishing or just not interested prefering to spend your time another way?

Also back home or hunting in the mountains for example - fishing for trout?

When I did not have any hunting ground I did some fishing, mostly after Pike but now I prefer to put my time of at shoting and hunting.

I can safely say that I spent more time next to the water than the bush the only reason being that it fits my budget more

I will probarly go up again next month to fish the limpopo with the drougt the water and fish are concentrated. What we normally catch is Talipia, barbel (catfish)

I have more pictures at home but here is one of my wife Charmaine with one of those small Tilapia's none of the big one's wanted to bite. Big ones are around 1kg and very seldom over 2kg.

Unfortunately, I don't get to fish as much as I'd like, but in 2 weeks I'm leaving for what hopefully will be a trip of a lifetime. I'm headed up to northern Manitoba, Canada, about 550 air miles north of Winnipeg for 9 days of fishing for trophy pike, walleye, lake trout and grayling. The lake covers 70,000 acres and is catch and release only, except that a fish or two may be kept for shore lunches. Northern Pike in excess of 40 inches are not uncommon, and many Walleye Pike over 28 inches are caught as well. We'll really be roughing it ,staying in a multi million dollar lodge, complete with daily maid service, a sauna, whirlpool, pool table, 3 home cooked meals a day, guide service, and all the clean, unpolluted Canadian air you can breathe.

Sounds like a great trip Mike, I have always wanted to fish Canada for Grayling, Muskie, Pike and Walleye. I used to fish for Walleye in a lake where I lived, they are great eating.

I am trying to find some good flyfishing here in OZ, I especially miss fishing for Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. There were dozens of farm ponds in my area, rangeing from a acre to several acres, and they were always stocked with bass, and not many people fished them. So with a flyrod and some poppers you could catch a nice dinner.

Muskie must be the cape buffalo of fish, big, menacing and hard to land. I have some friends that are obcessed with fishing for muskie.

Sure I do, seeing thats its the only legal field sport left in India!
carp-called Rohu and Catla locally, range upto 12kg and give a hell of a fight.
Channa species-'Murral' go upto 8-9kg-though bigger have been reported
The Mahseer [ barbel family]-any anglers dream--a 76 pounder was caught on the cauvery river in the state of Karnataka,on Boxing Day, 2006.

Lyn, if you're looking for fly fishing near Sydney you don't have to look too far. The streams up in the central tableands are good for trout, which are happy to take flies. The best locations are the smaller streams (OK, creeks for us aussies) and it is surprising how big a fish you can find in so little water. The rivers have a lot of carp, so less trout. Even with the drought you will still find fish around Oberon, Tarana, Bathurst and Blayney. All are good, and only about 3 hours drive away (used to be less, but several election upgrades have ruined the roads). Because the creeks are small, look to spend time walking, as the best method is to travel the creek as you fish the likely spots. Not an unpleasnt way to spend a day and get some excersize.
I have to admit I am not realy a fisher, more of a feeder of fish. my brother catches them on old sandwiches with bent wire and string (literaly sometimes) while I feed them from expesive tackle on light line. The recent game hunting licence covers some areas in the same region, so if you go that way (SSAA is agent I think) you could double up for the trip, feral hunting AND fishing. Just like it used to be. We do have licences (unfortunately) and closed seasons (Fair enough).

I try to wet a line as often as I can.

I mostly fly fish for trout, preferably wild browns.

The small spate rivers at home also have small runs of salmon and sea trout which if you time it right can provide good sport.

Never had any large fish myself, but a shooting buddy has had salmon over 20lb.from them.

I occasionally fish stillwaters for rainbow trout (stockies), a lesser sport but guarantes fish for tea!

Fishing is a good way of filling the time between roe buck stalking forres during the spring and summer!

Would love to try for a zambezi slam? I think it is called something like that, a Cape buff bull, brace of Guinifowl and a Tigerfish in the same day. A kind of walm Macnab!

That would be a good sporting achievement, one day, one day...

We flyfish for sockeye salmon on the Babine River, B.C. every August. The keep limit is 2 per day, with a total of 4 in possession. We stay at cabins about 12 km from the river, so we're able to take 12 Salmon home for the 3 of us.
: I released 27 sockeye in those two days, maybe 8 hours of fishing.
: It is common to have company while fishing. Those aren't black bears. That's my son-in-law in the foreground.

Here's my first fly-caught stealhead on the Kitimat river. There've been hundreds since this one, iwht much beter weight than this little 10 pound hen-fish. Average weight on the Kitimat through the 90's was about 14 pounds, with 24 pounds being my best fly-caught.

I fish competativly for a club and we are having a competition on Roodekoppies dam near Brits (NorthWest Province on Saturday. It is an artlure club and the aim is to catch as many different species of fish all on art lures.

(If I knew how to put on a picture I would. NitroX went through this excersise one time to many with me I think. I am just not a PC man)

Speckled Trout (Spotted Weakfish) and Red Fish (Red Drum) on the middle coast of Texas. Flies and artificials. All shallow water fishing, mostly wading.

Mountains.

Trout; 146 so far this spring {we keep count}. Little'uns {brook trout} caught on ultralight tackle and a worm. Taste like candy and get us our Omega-3's to-boot. Forgot to mention it's just pure fun!

These aren't counting my 17-year-old son's flyfishing. He's been doing it since he could lift a pole and he's an artist. Sometimes I just sit on the bank and watch him "paint". It is a beautiful thing.

Doesn't take many freezers with 262 trout in them to 'clean out' a lake.
: Here, it would be illegal to have 262 fresh-water fish in the freezer. There are some laws I like.
