Shame about the stock on that one, it's an interesting gun although I'd be more inclined to a 9.3x74R over 20ga.

Not wrong about the stock, either the previous owner was extremely small or it got badly damaged somehow in times past. Still it would have been a far cheaper option to do than to remake a whole butt-stock. OK to hunt with still really.
Certainly overkill for the European continent with the 450/400, but would have been fantastic in Afrika to use.

That 3" 20 bore lower barrel is certainly interesting.

Nothing wrong with it, but it would have been bloody nice if it was original, or if they kept the original bit they cut off and put it back on.

Interesting, as there is no butt plate. The wood's grain structure goes right to the edge.

Also interesting that the stock maker that added the butt section didn't refinsih the wood and try to blend the added piece with the original stock. Finished so dark, it makes the rework really stand out. Otherwise a nice looking gun. Agree a 9.3x74R would be a better option for Europe. Still a nice double rifle drilling, though expensive considering the stock.

gentleman, you will find a double rifle drilling in 9,3x74R any day here

the 450/400 NE makes it so special

just take a look on egun, here is another ferlach made drilling with two barrel sets

9,3x74R + 9,3x74R + 20/6

and

7x65R +20ga + 20ga( with hornet barrel insert)

See I would love that, put the hornet insert under the 9.3x74R barrels and it would be my perfect rifle.
I'd probably only use the 2nd set as shotgun only.

Note how ALL the blades fold. According to Forsyth, writing in 1860 about muzzleloading dangerous game rifles, this lack of a standing blade rear sight, was for point blank shooting. The larger breeches gave the proper elevation for close (25yard, etc) shooting.

I have seen this rifle twice a long time ago!
First saw this photo in Richard Akehurst’s book “Sporting Guns” in the 1960s. According to Akehurst it was in the collection of a Frank Anderson.

50 years ago, about 1970, I saw it again in the Munich, Bavaria gunshop of Waffen – Krausser. Since then it has been cleaned up and restored. The Selous sideplates are period repairs of a split stock.
