I just got these two matching pair of Holland double rifles.

Made for the Nizam of Hyderabad. I posted pics of the 500 BPE and the 450 is coming. Testing the
photo share service.
If the moderator can post these directly I will be thankful.

#2 500 BPE 3 1/4 and 5 drams, 26 inch barrels weighs 9 lbs 14 oz.

#1 is 450 BPE 3 1/4 4 drams, 28 inch barrels, weighs 9 lb 4 oz.

Nice.

Now what would be the difference, ie in game hunting, between a .450 and .500 in BPE?

Medium game for the .450?

Perhaps tiger for the .500 as well? Would it stretch to buffalo and gaur?

ie it is BPE not NE.

Again nice pair. Nice engraving on the plates as well.

Do they both fit in the same gun case? If so, anyway, please take a photo of the opened case with guns inside. Thanks.

OK, I have added 5 more pics, the case contents, notice the ivory front night sight, case extractor,
two photos of the owner born 08-17-1866, died 08-29-1911. And the owner with a dead tiger wielding
a double rifle in 1898. I hope this is one of my guns.

The interior of the tri level wood and leather motor case. Bottom level held ammo, upper two held
the disassembled guns. The shelves have no nails, all dovetailed corners. The outside had brass
corners.

And what remains of the inner case label with the loading data for #12,205 the 450 3 1/4".

Could a moderator retrieve these to see in this post? Thank you from Hawaii

Holland & Holland matched pair of double rifles, .450 BPE & .500 BPE, commissioned by the Nizam of Hyderabad

Holland & Holland "matched" pair of double rifles in .450 BPE and .500 BPE. Made for the Nizam of Hyderabad.

Number #1 is a .450 BPE, 3 1/4 and 4 drams, 28 inch barrles and weighs 9 lbs 4 oz.

Number #2 is a .500 BPE, 3 1/4 and 5 drams, has 26 inch barrels and weighs 9 lbs 14 oz.

I shot the .450 today at 25 yards and added a pic of 6 shots. First two I held @ 6 o'clock, hits
are point of aim at that distance.

Next 4 I held center of the target and all 4 can be covered by your hand in the center of the target.

Load of 44 grains IMR 4198 under a 300 grain LBT gas check lead bullet. The magneto speed chrono
says 1900 f/s.

NitroX could you assist me and update with this photo of the target?

I saw these two guns for sale on GI. They were for sale seperately which made me wonder why they would put for up for sale as one pair.

Its a nice pair. Congratulation with your guns. Lovely backactioned Holland & Hollands from the best period of english gunmaking and hunting.

Yes these two were listed separately and I made an offer as a pair and the dealer agreed on my price for both. They were about 14.5K each.

The nizams only .600 holland lives in Australia. It was delivered about 1948. Held up during the 2nd world war. It is built on the larger 600 holland action.

Super nice rifles. I'd be interested if you get the 500 #2 shooting well. I have a Westley in that caliber and haven't found a smokeless load to regulate yet.

Both of my Holland 500 3 1/4" BPE regulate with cast lead GC LBT .511 bullets of 350 grains over
54 grains of 4198 and two Kynoch foam wads.

Components sourced from Midway and wads from "Trader Keith". The wads are the ones Kynoch uses for
.400-500 diameter bullets.

A shooter friend also uses that load to regulate in his Holland and a Rigby. One is a 3 inch, so
case length doesn't matter with use of Kynoch wads.

So here on Oahu 4 guns regulate with that load. We shoot steel plates hung at 50 and 100 yards every Sunday.

If you are on Oahu, come on Sunday to the Koko Head Shooting Complex and shoot our guns.
