Searcy's NEW Action - The Classic
      #45663 - 04/01/06 04:31 AM

All:

I was lucky enough to get an email from Butch this morning after I asked him about the new action I had been hearing rumors about.

Well, the man sent me some photos that I want to share with all of you. These photos show Butch's new action in the white - it is not yet color case hardened. It should be really sexy when it's all finished up.

So, you've seen it here first!

If I get more pictures before he updates his website, I'll be sure to pass them on.

Wow, this is good...

This might sound funny, but I just didn't like the way his guns looked. The features of the forging he was using just didn't do it for me. This appearance is much more pleasing to my eyes, I hope this doesn't end up being a *higher price option* than the typical Butch boxlock action.

I might even start pitching some dollars away for the build of a new gun!

Why Alec Baldwin of all people?

Oh, directly to the heart with that one!

Actually, if you are referring to the icon I chose for my screen name, that is not Baldwin, but Mr. Michael Madsen - he played that sick twisted F-er "Mr. Blonde" in the movie Reservior Dogs.

Here is a good shot of Mr. Madsen:

Clark - thanks for the pics. I've been anxious to see them.

To me it looks like a deluxe model w/out bolsters. I realize it will be case-hardened, but - unfortunately - I don't see the $2500 extra in yet.

Speaking of finish. How does Chapuis produce the French Grey finish. Is it just a high luster polish?

typically... a "coin finish" is a case-hardened reciever (either bone & charcoal or chemical) with the case-colors removed and polished.

Very interesting.

I was very close to ordering one of his boxlocks this past fall, I am glad that I decided to wait Did Butch provide any other info with the pictures or is he waiting for the big unveiling at the show?

The lines of Searcy's new 'round-action' are indeed pleasing, compared with the chunky brutally-bolstered box-shape of his initial offerings. One might speculate that if he sticks with it long enough, the Searcy might eventually evolve into an acceptable British look-alike!

The continuously 'improved' boxlock eventually develops 'elegance', which was the first thing to have been discarded in the Searcy process. Marvellous! I strongly suspect Searcy sales will strengthen!

So is this not a stainless steel action? I didn't care for the look of them either. They looked unfinished, still in the white. Coin Finish or colour look much better to me. Is he still going with the Double Underlug?

This maybe a pretty nice rifle.

You hear that Butch, I probably like it.

Beginning to show some finesse. Fences are much better. I can't remember who said it would look like Westley. Doesn't, but it's an improvement over the PH.

How can it be a Classic if it is new?

Color case hardening is nice for the artistic types but I think this action would be better in stainless steel.

It might be vastly superior to all others if the barrels were a stainless steel with cerrakote

The lines look very nice. I think it is an improvement, to my eyes at least.

The classic is very nice.

And I also like the sidelock underlever.

I like the sidelock underlever also. I like underlevers. I just don't like the look of stainless steel. I hope this means Butch is going to start building rifle that can be blacked and coloured.

The classic will be colored. Could he do it to any of his rifles on request? you can request chrome moly so it could be done on any of the models right? I am very interested to see how the finished product looks.

Stainless...

Hm.
I've been thinking that a four or five dram black powder sixteen bore double set up for roundball would be handy and useful.
This new action from Butch in stainless and dark hardwood with a set of stainless barrels would make one slick all climate black powder bore gun.

I wonder what the base price will be for this new action.
Anyone heard from Mr Searcy as to what the price is?
