Their website lists new boxlocks made in Belgium under the Griffen & Howe name for around $20,000. Any experience good, bad, ugly?

They are built by Marcel Thys, a reputable firm in BELGIUM, I have handled them and they seem very attractive. THYS builds very expensive sidelocks too as I recall. I'd rather have TWO of SEARCY'S P.H. models, built so that the barrels of each fit the other. If you make 400 or 500K per year I guess you can buy two Thys.

Jack

Who told you that Searcy barrels are interchangable between rifles? I think that is a mistake.

I thought Marcel Thys retired from the gun business.

???

Regrouped after the theft that cost them the business. They remade every stolen rifle at their cost.

Marcel is 62 and has health problems for years so I would bet Eric is the main guy now.

I must admit, that is NOT something that I have confirmed with B. SEARCY. I would hope that it is so, but even if not, I'd rather have the two by SEARCY. Thanks for pointing this out.

Remember, although B. Searcy & Co. makes some 40 rifles per year, they are still a handmade item, not a mass produced piece like a Rem 870. I would not expect any more interchangeability than would be found on a Brown Bess musket which also has hand fitted parts.
