The top scene is my favorite, but the lone side plate with only the male lion is damn close to perfection - I haven't seen anything better.

2,3 and 4. I don't care for the smaller Leopards though. Who is the engraver?

The single lion really caught my eye.

Yes, bulldog, he's good... but I don't know that I would say he's one of the "greats"... yet.

The style is different, but here are some from Philippe Grifnée (from Belgium)- one of the true masters of this art.

Giacomo Fausti (from Italy)

G.S. Pedretti (another Italian)

Anyone have any idea how much the ele engraving would cost?

Really fine engraving. For some reason, the engraving on double rifles is usually of much lower quality than shotguns. I checked out the latest DGJ for poor work, but this edition has only one new gun with poor engraving...that is a Krieghoff with the cartoon animals. The Rigby which usually advertises poor engraving now advertises some much higher quality work. I congratulate them. Much nicer, guys!

Look at the new Galazan round action shotgun. That is not engraving but looks great. Anyone know how it is made?

Check out the Purdey ad. They have shown some unbalanced engraving in recent years, but this one is fine. Also check out the Galazan Fox...different but really exceptional engraving in colors.

Beautiful work on all of them, especially the rhino. While I would prefer the traditional cartoon engraving or a fine scroll for a double, and the heavier relief scroll on a bolt, it is very easy to appreciate all the works of art posted in this thread.

The one on top, done by Grifnée?

I'm guessing at 25-30K Euro and 3-4 years' wait. I'm basing that on what I've heard recently for a Phil Coggan engraved gun.

You could probably get a talented engraver to take a stab at duplicating the pattern for about 10K Euro.

As an amateur engraver, I can say that these are beautiful examples of quality engraving. Guess I need to practice more (years more).

A rather unusual choice of motive. I wonder if this gun is meant for hunting dragons?

I have seen that rifle on the internet but can't remember where. Can you give me the website?

Very nice! While I don't doubt the engravers ability or artistry, just a few comments: photo 1, big buff like that being taken by lion unlikely. Also buff horns will be taken apart by hyenas, etc. In photo 2, leopard unrealistic. Photos 3,4,5, very nice. Photos 6,7 not so good. Grifnee's work is in a different class! Regards, Charls.
