doubles at gun show today
      #39573 - 23/10/05 08:14 AM

I went to a local gun show this afternoon. One guy had a few doubles he was busy trying to buy a mauser off an old guy so I didnt get to talk to him.
One was a double 22lr it was new the sight hadnt even been filed yet???
The 2nd was a holland and holland needed some fixen up didnt have any blue left on the barrels and the wood had some chips it was a hammer gun I couldnt tell what caliber it was but the loaded rounds with it had been formed from 444 shells. It was marked $4000
The 3rd one was a charles cogswell I believe I spelled it right. I was in very nice shape it was a very slender double. It was a underlever hammer gun in 360bpe I really liked the looks of that double! He wanted $4000 for it also.Too much for my blood but It looked like it was very well made with outstanding engraving and was very slim like a 410 shotgun. If I only had $$$$. Were cogswells well made doubles? How much do you think one like I decribed is worth?

Hello-

So where was this gun show located?

The .22 sounds interesting.

Those two other guns may well be worth what you said, but really the only way to tell would be to handle them and go from there.

Saratoga New York. Yes most value is condition I can tell you unless the 360 had been refinished and if it had it was very well done it was as close to new as a gun that age could be in my opinion.

Wow.

360BPE in really stinkin good shape.
Sounds like a honey.

Not everyone will agree, but I think the smaller calibers are very interesting and valuable, the price sounds about right.

I've seen smallbores like that built big and weighted like the larger game guns, seems some folks back then liked to stay fresh when hunting or shooting the smaller bore with a rifle that handled like the big bore gun.

Small and dainty though, man that sounds great.
