Bought my self a second doublerifle
      #330598 - 26/07/19 04:34 PM

Hi all

Bought my self a second double in my gun cabinet, this will be the third one i have purchased before i turn 31 years.

I have one 9.3x74 and used to one a new krieghoff 500NE.
So the craving to have a big bore cameback, and the choise fell on the 470 caliber, nice combo with my 9.3x74.

The rifle i a Merkel 140A in 470NE
Produced in the year 2000. Its regulated with federal ammo, woodleigh bullets.

It has been a couple of times in africa, and proven it self against 2 elephants, 4 buffalo and 1 eleand.

It has some upgrades done to it, like articulated triggers, cleaning cloth in the pistol grip cap and moonsight.
It is also a links rifle, i am a right shooter, so i will in 1-2years time have new stock built to it with a nice turkish walnut.

I think it was a good deal, i only paid
4000dollars for it and a zeiss C 1.5-4.5x18 as a trade in to sweeten the deal.

No this one has been upgraded with articulated triggers, no dobling issues. The rear trigger jo use first, because that shots the left barrel on this one, and front trigger right barrel. So im not gone change that set up, only a right shooter stock with times.

Some Drs shoot fine with the left barrel first anyway. You find out by trying it. And rear trigger though annoying, means one is less likely to slap the rear trigger of using the front one first.

Very nice. Also like the engraving. Looks rock solid to me.

I do see many things in common with my Simson &Co Suhl .405 WCF double.

Go shoot something BIG with it!

Andreas - all 2-triggered doubles I know of, whether shotgun or rifle, muzzleloaders or ctg. guns, fire the right barrel with the front trigger. This gun appears no different.

I've always thought an "articulated" trigger meant the front trigger will push forward to prevent cutting your trigger finger when firing the left barrel. Indeed, in the last picture, the hinge pin in the front trigger appears. (If that indeed is what THIS system is) If not, I would like to know what it is.

This rifle has had the trigger system changed for links set up. Front trigger shots left on this one.

Mye A.W Wolf 9.3X74R are normal, and shots front trigger with the right barrel.

This gun has been to the gunsmith by the previous owner. So it did not leave the factory like this in 2000.

Here is a another upgrade that has been done to the rifle

Ebony forend on the splinter
And cleaning rag inside the pistol grip cap

A very nice piece of kit indeed there Nitro_A!
The .470 is the real deal so you certainly have a proven rifle & cartridge to back you up - whenever you get the chance to get over to the dark continent, we'll all be looking forward to that!

Congratulations! It is a fine double rifle. Be sure to give a report of how it shoots.

DarylS,
Your articulated trigger definition matches that of Beretta.
ALSO MATCHES THE FRONT TRIGGER OF MY BERETTA DOUBLE.

Very nice looking rifle, I hope you enjoy shooting it and don't have some of the problems that several other members have had with doubling.

Yes, the triggers have been attended to, so should be okay. Note that the original front trigger may also have been articulated - I bought mine almost new in 2011 and it had as standard an articulated front trigger.

This rifle is from 2000. When atriculated triggers where not an option. It has been custom fited later on.

This gun has had the trigger body positions swapped over in the trigger plate.
The front trigger normally resides in the right hand slot in the trigger plate and will fire the right barrel, and the rear trigger will be in the left slot to fire the left barrel.

They have had their positions swapped to bring the front trigger closer for a left hand shooter.
This results in the front trigger firing the left barrel and rear trigger firing the right barrel.

The front trigger is indeed articulated. (Hinged)

Nice rifle Andreas, and chambered for a great cartridge.
You can never own too many doubles.
