Rigby's rising bite in a .470ne

found some fotos of a rising bite rigby in cal. .470ne
with ser.nr.: 17459
it was re-proofed 1971 in ferlach as the owner at that time
got a 2nd barrel in .375hh made.
sold this fine double rifle end of last year (which i very
much regretted since than)
but...you can't do everything right

Was it 375 Magnum Flanged?

Yes, very nice.
Mark from London (bramble) was so close.
Pity he expired before he could finish the job of bringing the Rigby rising bite back in the 21st century.

Hi Norbert,

It truly is a fine rifle.

I meant to ask was it the Flanged 375H&H Magnum rather than the Belted. Even in double rifles it seems the Belted was much more popular.

the rifle is restocked, with the original stock still existing
refinished , reblued as the rifle was newly regulated.

Certainly a beautiful job.

The checkering covers like a mosquito net, very fine.

Good for another hundred years or so.

What was the weight with the 470bbls and the 375bbls (scoped)?

hi chris
for the 470 it was around 5.3kg as barrel was rather long and
for the shorter and thinner 375 barrel incl. the scope was nearly the
same weight.
i got the rifle newly stocked in suhl as the previous owner had, due to
an injury in the war, a cripple stock mounted.

I may be mistaken, but did this rifle spend some time in South Africa recently? If not, it's the identical twin to one that's spent several years being flogged with no success. There were several reasons why it didn't sell.

The rifle in the pictures looks OK but it has been HEAVILY gone over, probably more than once.

The lockplates shine like a mirror...polished, no doubt. "Brushed and polished", in the vernacular of the day.
