      #227997 - 04/04/13 09:52 AM

We're going to have a DR shoot at Birchwood on May 4.
There will be 4 Bores on down to Omnivorious Bobs 25-20.I'm going to bring out several myself and others also have multiples also.

Cal Pappas will be doing the cooking.

Mike:
Glad to hear Cal is sticking to the cooking.
Just remind him that we will regard any double-rifle shooting that he may do as "practice" which is grounds for disqualification at the Northern Territory Big Game Rifle Championships mid-year.

I'll try and find out. I know he wanted to wander down there for another hunt. Possibly he's going to combine them?

There was some speculation weither or not Cal would try to shoot his 600 from a wheelchair after his operation. They were trying to decide which postal code area he'd end up in afterwards!

Gents:
I've been invited to the shoot down under and am planning to go.I believe the date is July 20th. I will arrive a week early and hunt buff. I have two mates working on the rifle permits but there may be a snag: hunting without a registered guide and also shooting in the competition in combination with hunting.
Hope to see you all son.
Cal

Great photos!

As a long-time Fairbanks resident (who still considers Alaska my home state) its nice to see so many doubles in action!

We have talked about having a shoot every month on the first weekend. Everyone of you gentlemen are more than welcome. (Especially if you drag along a 577 BPE)

I worked the night before so my arse was dragging. Then when I rolled out of bed with 2 hrs of sleep it was snowing..
But we got lucky and the skies cleared some.

Awesome, some really nice guns there.
Looks like you had a great time.

Is that a silenced Sten gun ?

I haven't fired one of those for years.
Fired it out the back of my unit one day
into a bank of earth, that was until the neighbour
went to the kitchen and looked out the window !!! LOL
The look of horror in here eyes was so funny but
luckily the CQ managed to go round and keep it
under wraps.

Thanks a bunch for posting those pictures, Mike.
I take it Phil is shooting a 4 bore single with smokeless powder.

Yes the Sten has a muffler on it. I haven't been around those before and I was surprised how well it actually worked.

The 4 Bore is used with Blue Dot smokeless powder if I recall correctly. The loads was a smaller one for range time IIRC. He has a variety of different loads all the way up to " Aww Shiat what hit me".

I did have a 8 bore case split the head off when I shot. Kind of a surprise when the head popped out and the rest stayed in the chamber. But shoving a finger down that hole took it out easily.

The two shown in cases were a surprise for all of us. The owner had seen the post at AR and had dropped by to chat. Soon he went home to grab his and returned with those jewels.

It was a bunch of fun being with and shooting with like minded folks!

AK Mike

Yes, those mufflers do work, very well indeed IMHO.

Anyway, thanks again for posting.
