Urgent question
      #168056 - 20/09/10 08:00 AM

Hey guys, a friend of mine has pointed out a possible issue for me, gulp!

My rigby 500 has oval bore rifling.......apparently, by Lancaster.

Is this possible?? Could such a thing exist? Anybody else got a non Lancaster gun with this rifling?

Thanks

Ben

I'm no expert but I understand that is a respectable type of rifling, designed to limit fouling by eliminating the notchy recesses in other designs. It's certainly nothing to be ashamed of from a collecting point of view. Whether they shoot well or why the idea was abandoned, I don't know but I bet others on this forum do.

Cheers

I understand it was designed to reduce blackpowder fouling and is akin to A. Henry's patent.

I've never seen or heard of one but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Do the barrels look original?, are they engraved "Rigby" with the correct address? I would be concerned if they are original to the gun or are replacements.

Apologies....

Has Metford style rifling, i.e. Rigby's own.......

Sorry all......gun is abroad still, due to import costs!

Have you all seen this?
