A Paradox with the rifling cut off to make it a regular shotgun. I don't have a picture.

I bet your can’t be as bad as the one I am going to tell you about:


Army and Navy Hamerless .577 N.E converted into a 12 bore shotgun. This was done before the internet came along.Here in India some guy thought this was an obsolete bore and that 12 bore would be much more useful and practical. A lot of people exchanged their exquisite best make Double rifles for .30-06 bolt actions or for .32 Webley revolvers in the 70's 80's and 90's and still do in some places to this day.

In 2009 I was at a local gun shop. When I entered, I saw a guy begging the dealer to take his C.G Bonehill 450/400 double and give him a $300 country made shotgun in exchange for it. I picked up a Holland and Holland Royal hammerless 20 bore Paradox with a spare set of 20 bore smoothbore barrels made by Charles Boswell in original makers case with most of the tools for $2500 in 2008 but sold it because there is limit to the number of firearms one can possess.

The other side of the coin is that people sometimes go on internet and just look at best guns and quote a crazy price. Someone had been telling me of a Holland and Holland rifle for months. When I went to have a look, it was a hammer single shot .577 BPE and the guy thought it was Holland and Holland and worth at least $20,000! And I have been quoted 250,0000 rupees ($50000 USD) for a 12 bore E.J Churchill Boxlock XXV. I looked at the seller and said, “You know the dollar is not doing very well these days. Let it bounce back and you might get that price in few months time. Right now it might be worth 240,000 Rupees($48000).” He carefully put the shotgun back in the case, snapped the locks, gave me a big smile and extended his hand for a big shake He said, “Thank you,” and then walked away happy. Guess what I was thinking as he was walking away?

Hammer double with a rechambering done crooked with a drill to 577/500 #2, barrels and action almost as new.

John Dawkins had a Holland & Holland .450 NE with one barrel converted to a shotgun barrel. A unique sort of paradox gun, hey? It was at a gunshop as part of his estate, but not sure where it is now.

i got a charles lancaster 577 bpe bored out to 12 gauge, outside looks great actually the gun looks great, so i desided when times permit i will resurrect it to its former glory while testing a few new methods on the way.

I have an 1887 Paradox gun that somebody thought would make a good dedicated double rifle. So they soldered a ramp sight on the front. They also mounted a huge contraption for a rear sight. The rear was a monstrosity. I removed the rear sight and you can see what was left underneath in the picture below. The front sight is the worst of it and the result of the soldering was loss of regulation. The left barrel shot a nice tight group. The right barrel shot a nice tight group. The left and right groups were about a foot apart diagonally at 25yds. The gun is in the process of being corrected to include re-regulation.

Thats one way to regulate it i suppose, but shorting it an inch would sort it out.

Magnaporting was so 1979. They would have fitted a vented recoil pad and white line spacers too I imagine.

I had a friend In Denver who was a collector of fine rifles and shotguns and
sport cars.And his wife who always said he spent more time with his cars and guns then with her.
And it's unclear what they had a fight about. But he left to the bar. And she hauled all
his guns to the garage. And as when they was first married she used to help him in the garage.
I am sure you already know what happen. She fired up the cutting tourches the guns was in about 6 inch pieces and she did not miss the cars either. Then a fire started.And once it got going pretty good she called the fire dept.And to top everything else off as she had started it and told the fire dept she had. Insurance would not pay. Smile maybe that's why I never remairred. Whitey
