Ideal names for your kids if you are crazy!
      #135025 - 11/05/09 12:30 AM

Saw another thread and ....

"Westley" for a boy, middle name "Richard", but I pity a kid named "Westley".

"Jeffery". My midde name is Jeffrey, slghtly different spelling.

"Purdey" for a girl. Wasn't Joanna Lumley in the "New Avengers" named Purdey?

"Dakota" already is, as is "Remington" and "Winchester".

"Churchill" is a great name for the bull dog, but not a human kid.

"Blaser" a great name for a horse!

"Merkel" is already a name as in "Angela Merkel", maybe a good name for a girl, but I am being really rude now ....

"Holland" could be a girl's name, similar to "Holly".

"Greener" could be a real cool trendy name similar to Sky, River and Earth.

"Heym" a ethnic sounding first name.

Something really cool about this one - "Ziegenhahn".

And I won't even mention "Fuchs" ......

"Purdey" for a girl. Wasn't Joanna Lumley in the "New Avengers" named Purdey? I PITY THE BOY NAMED PURDEY!!

"Dakota" already is, EVERYWHERE HERE. TONS OF THEM. ALMOST PASSE. I HAVE A HORSE NAMED DAKOTA, AND THAT IS WHERE I THINK THE NAME BELONGS. WE CALL HER "KOTY" OR "KOTA".

"Holland" could be a girl's name, similar to "Holly". I LIKE THIS ONE. BUT THEN, I KNEW A GORGEOUS GIRL NAMED HOLLY.

"Greener" could be a real cool trendy name similar to Sky, River and Earth. I LIKE GREENER. SOUNDS GOOD. UNLESS THE KID'S LAST NAME IS "FIELDS" OR "LANDS". I GUESS IT WOULD BE REALLY COOL IF THE KID'S LAST NAME WAS "SHOTGUN"...

And I won't even mention "Fuchs" ...... I ACTUALLY KNOW A FAMILY BY THIS NAME...

HOW ABOUT "DOPPELBOCKSBUCHSFLINTE"??

AS IN, "HEY, MOM, I'M GOING OVER DOPPELBOCKSBUCHSFLINTE'S HOUSE AFTER SCHOOL. I'LL BE HOME FOR SUPPER."

I don't have any kids so can't take up the opportunity, but do you think there might be an advertising/marketing opportunity is selling the rights to your kids' names?

eg "Holland Hahn" ... "Westley Richard Hahn" ... "Fuchs Hahn"

Must be worth a buck to the companies as it is advertising for life!

OK, any one out there willing o name their first born "Nitro Express .... Smith ...(ie insert surname)? How much?

PS I have not been drinking, well not much anyway.

John, I like the crass, shameless approach. Very apppealing!! I wonder how much quid I could coax out of the companies for a complete package, changed surname and all; "Ruger Winchester Hodgdon Alliant Vitavouri Savage", with Remington as a christening name???

I think you are on to something!

Still, a tasteful "Nitro Express" has a great ring to it.

"Honey, would you mind changing little Nitro's nappies?? I think he touched off both barrels."

Don't forget Alexander Henry....

How about a girl named Sarah Margaret Leslie Emily, or SMLE for short?

If James Bond ever had a daughter, he would have named her Martini (shaken, not stirred).

I have been known to refer to my wife as "Boss", so I suppose that would do for a girl's name as well.

I had a boss once upon a time named "R.A.F. England". True.

Good one. Especially if your surname was "Henry".

A common female name, however the feminine version is "Bossy".

My son's middle name is Remington but this is because it is an old family name.

I'll one up you on R.A.F. England. When I was in the Army we had a guy named Baron Von Rush. Let's just say the guy definitely wasn't German.

Gentlemen,

This thread is a little different. Though I'm of German decent one probably would want to avoid naming a child after a German firearm combination. Though "Doppelbuchse" (in the plural form) is what many of us are drawn to the possibility of a kid being called "Doppels" for short smacks of someone rather light in the loafers. Many of the English names are good but very common. If one were to lean to the Deutsch side and keep with the firearms theme there is “Blitz” (lightning) and “Stahl” (steel), somewhat in line with “Nitro” (hmmm? - maybe better suited for a dog. My longtime favorite name for a kid that carries a European tone, sounds somewhat medieval, and is a little different is: “Banewort”, for those of us that have run into too many “Seths”.

This is funny stuff.

My German is very limited but I believe 9.3X57 was right to say that many of these words do not go well together and some combinations could be dangerous. Of course that would be when used around people with no sense of humor.

Sure is fun though.

For example: the use of "Fuchs" and "Hahn" together would make the hahn a rather key appendage belonging to a fox, if I’m not mistaken.

There was I think a girl character called Martini Henry in Hal Porter's 'The Watcher on the Cast-Iron Balcony'. Her father had carried one in battle and liked the name.

When I lived in Moses Lake their was a girl named Fonda Peters.

I have a friend who names his dogs after famous Trout rivers. Snake, Battenkill, Bow. He actually thought about, but decided against naming a new Bitch Firehole.

"Purdey" in the New Avengers.

Posted just for fun.

"Purdey" was played by Joanna Lumley, whom today campaigns for the rights of "British" Gurkha troops to be allowed to become British citizens and settle in Britain.

Sorry mush your wrong (not that I have anything against Canadians)

Ms Lumley was born in Sirinigar India where her father was a Major in the Gurkhas. Nitro is correct in saying that she is campaigning for the Gurkhas and for good reason they like many other traditional aspects of British life have been F###d over by the sniveling, baby boomer once revolting student generation of Volvo marxists that came in under the banner of that hand wringing oxygen thief Blair and now rests in the chubby neo marxist paws of the Brown.
(Not a fan you may notice.)
Gurkhas have been a part of the British armed forces for years and in fact it is a strong family tradition going back generations. To cut a long story short Blair intent to "rebuild" Britain amalgamated and dispossed of many regiments and gave Johhny Gurkha the flip, meanwhile they let in by their own admission the riff raff of the world and signed them on for welfare and housing a total
and unmitigated balls up. Deny a people who have served Britain valiantly and let in many who are at best scavengers at worst criminals and enemies.
So rant over

Less appealing firearms based names:

Boito
Norinco

Because lets face it wants a kid who jams rusts and has the aethetic qualities of a brick end.

That makes sense why she is passionate about the lobbying.

As for the dissolving of most of the Gurkha Regiments, like the one they dissolved in Hong Kong a few years ago (?) I have always thought if our Australian gov't wasn't also snivelling and balless (both Libs and Labor), Australia should have offered to take over the tradition. AND provide citizenship and family resettlement opportunities after a period of service by a Gurkha soldier.

Better value for our country than some we accept too willingly today.

For twin boys you could try Webley & Scott.

P.S. Joanna Lumley was so right about the Ghurkas. Figuratively she grabbed the Government Minister responsible by the family jewels and gave him a good shaking... his eyes were watering. She's now a lady of mature years but still looks damn good to me.

I ventured in the different names world and named one of my sons Stone. I always thought if I was ever blessed with another his name would be Gunnar. I do like the sound of Stahl however, may have to see what the wife thinks.

Gunnar is a Swedish name, no one names kids Gunnar anymore. But 50 years ago it was rather popular. It goes around so maybe it´s soon modern? //Staffan

"Hunter" is used here - sparingly, as a boy's name. Friend of mine's grandchild is named such.

X2 on hunter. One of my bear hunting partner's son is named Hunter.

Sville would know better than me but Gunnar means warrior, brave etc. In modern terms it would indirectly mean gunner in English. Good handle I'd say. Wife says I may have to wait for a grandson!!!!!!

"Rigby" would be a good name for a Great Dane. Thank heavens I never thought to call any of my kids Rigby. being aussie I would of shortened that to 350 when young and 416 when they were older.

Ha true story, when I was a kid growing up in Wynnum (suburb of Brisbane, Queensland Australia) we had a doctor with the surname Death. Very unfortunate for him but he insisted it was pronounced (phonetically) "Deeth". He must have been uncomfortable with the name "Doctor Death" I guess but couldn't admit it

As for the dissolving of most of the Gurkha Regiments, like the one they dissolved in Hong Kong a few years ago (?) I have always thought if our Australian gov't wasn't also snivelling and balless (both Libs and Labor), Australia should have offered to take over the tradition. Better value for our country than some we accept too willingly today.

Australia was offered the Gurkha regiments that went to Hong Kong. We just had to provide the land and the Brits would do the rest. However in our pollies infinate wisdom we knocked the offer back. From hazy memory they would of been based in/near Darwin.

Well, I've stifled long enough -

When I worked in Corrections, one of the 'regular' inmates was named "Harry" by his mom. Her last name was "Dick" - honestly, not "Dyke".

Some people just don't think when they name their children.

I had a boss once who's rank and name was Major Organ. He was never quite comfortable with it. In Afghanistan there was a guy named Sergeant Major Smallwood. Being a Sgt Maj his photo was posted at the entrance of the chow hall.

Girl I went to high school with...Tara Hymen. Her parents seemed normal but clearly couldn't have been.

Before I retired I worked for the Cox newspaper chain as a systems administrator. The Dayton Daily News was part of Cox Ohio. There was a woman in the classified ad department named Angela Dick. Her email address was "adick@coxohio.com".

There was also a librarian at the Springfield Sun in Ohio...her name was "Anita Beaver". That was her married name. Her parents were not at fault. While Angela was a sweet young lady, Anita was an extremely unpleasant person.

Then there was a more mundane but goofy name. Our neighbors daughter was named "Golden Little". A bit odd but nothing awful. She then married a guy named Mike Horn...thus becoming "Golden Horn".

I have personal knowledge of all these folks and they are not urban legend names. Sometimes the English language is just hilarious.

My grade 3 teacher's last name was Kuntz. She was the reason for my first strap in elementary school. After that first one, it was a regular occurrence until grade 7. When I was in grade 8, the Principal told me I would end up in jail. I did 20 years on the working side of the bars - LOL.

I forgot my nephew, his name is Phupha which is pronounced poopa.

They didn't understand why I gave him the nickname scoopa.

Your nephew is of Indian or Sri Lankan ancestry?

He's Thai.

My sister in law is called noona, it means big sister sort of over there, although I did have to mention it's means something else in the west.

I didn't know you are the brother of Jimmy Barnes?!

For those that don't know, singer Jimmy Barnes married a Thai princess.

A lot of Thai girls are very pretty.

And a disturbing number of thai boys of the lady persuasion.

But if they had friendlier gun laws I'd move there in a heartbeat.

I worked with a nurse years ago who’s name is Polly Look.
Her middle name is Esther.
She was so cool and a great nurse. I’m sure her name had much to do with her great attitude.

Polyester is a hot fabric (especially in the tropics), sounds like "PollyEsther" the nurse was a well!

I think "Marlin" would be/is a good boy's first name.
Mr. Brando's parents just got the spelling wrong.
https://www.babycenter.com/baby-names/details/marlin-3075

My Dad was a professor of anthropology and linguistics.
He always dreaded the first day of class where you have to call out everyone's name and learn who they are.
One such student was a Phalice Long.
He calls out "Faleece Long".
She stands up and says "no sir. it's phallus long".
True story. (and one of our family faves).
He had a couple of others.

One of America's great Olympic swimmers was Misty Hyman who changed the way the butterfly was done.
Dunno what her parents were thinking.
