Hi guys - what do you think about this one - 5.5K € from a respectable Ferlach's gunsmith?

It's made to shoot standing, yes, but the drop at heel seems a lot to use with a scope. Ejectors for a belted case would seem a dicey proposition, too. For all that, it looks a nice piece and reasonable value.

I can't read German so can't read the description. But that rifle might be a fantastic deal. What you must determine is if rechambering to 450NE 3 /14" will clean up the 458 Lott chamber. I know it will clean up a 458wm chamber. If it won't, then you need to determine if the rifle has enough steel in the barrels to stand rechambering to 450NE No2, which will almost surely clean up the Lott chamber.

While your at it, find out how much the rechambering, and possible reregulation will cost.

If the math all still works out, buy the rifle and try it as a 458wm or Lott (458wm ammo is safe to shoot in the Lott chamber.) You may find that its performance and its extraction and ejection are flawless as is, obviating the need to rechamber, or you may find issues and need to rechamber.

I bought my Marcel Thys sidelock in 458wm with every intention of rechambering to 450NE 3 1/4" and was pleasantly suprised to find it unecessary. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds, 18 elephants, four cape buffalo, one zebra, one klipspringer and a baboon mercy kiling later, all as a 458wm, and peformance and function remain perfect.

I wouldn't consider rechambering just take it as it is - any additional thoughts on Lott in a double?

I am lefty, so new stock would be a must - and that scope would find place on another rifle - IMO positioned as it is must be a sure "mageye" engraver?

I am just looking through passers like this one - I am still a 9.3 guy - however that will be put under test in the upcoming couple of weeks and I may become an convert to 450+ class, but in that case the closest would be a Merkel since I allready own one in 9.3 and I am accustomed to it fully.

If you wouldn't consider rechambering, don't buy it.

The only fix for a 458wm/Lott that doesn't extract or eject with 100% reliability is to rechamber to 450NE.

But this is the beauty of the opportunity. If the rifle were in 450NE or 470, it wouldn't be a bargain, it would be priced much higher. Rechambering isn't that expensive (at least here) and neither is reregulating, and with rechambering there is a 50% chance chance of needing reregulation.

I would bet some $'s that the rifle was made as a 458wm, btw. Check proof.

Rather than restock, consider removing the cheekpiece and having the stock bent. I'm a lefty as well, and this can work wonders.
