Alex

Welcome to the Board. You didn't put workmanship as a choice so I assumed it fell under reputation.

Any pictures of what you do?

Micky,

Thanks for the welcome and yes I did assume workmanship would be included in reputation.

We do have a limited number of pictures on our website - www.alexbeer.com

I have just started building a 577 Nitro double for a client. When I work out how to get pictures on this forum, I'll post some photo's and a bit of a description as we go if people would like. Let me know if this would be of interest.

Welcome Alex,

Very nice rifles and you're in the right place posting about them.

As the official pesterer for pictures, I would request you to please post pictures of a rifle being built from start to finish. You need to upload the pictures to www.hunt101.com or to www.photobucket.com and post the link here. But, if you find that problematic, there are several of us who would be most happy to post pictures for you if you e-mail them to us.

Welcome again and do post often.

I voted:

- calibre - because I will want it for a specific hunting purpose.

- price - because while DRs for higher prices than my wallet allows might be wonderful, if I can't afford them I can't buy them.

- function - I assumed this included workmanship. ie if it is a DR and doesn't balance or doesn't feel right at my shoulder, then it would be purchased. Similar if I want or don't want ejectors etc. Weight? A suitable weight for the chambering and the purpose it is wanted for. A lightish .470 might be OK if it is not shot a lot. But if it kicks too much, the owner probably won't use it much or enjoy it much or at all. A too heavy 9.3mm or .400, why bother with it? Balance and fit is the most important.

- accuracy was not mentioned. Obviously a newly made DR is expected to regulate very well. Accuracy within the bounds of the use of the calibre.

- I did not vote reputation, however this certainly helps with the re-sale value, if the owner wants it to appreciate in value over time or sell it again one day.

Some my reasoning.

Thanks John for your valuable input. It really helps me to get to know better what you guys are looking for in a custom gun.
(Are there any ladies out there who own a double rifle?!)

We want to give our clients exactly what they want, so it helps to know where to focus our priorities.

Cheers,

Hi Alex,
I'm the chap with the Searcy.
I was impressed with your bolt rifle in 7x57.
You should post some pictures of it and the Double rifle on this sight.
Regards,
Adam.

Hello ozhunter and sbs470
Nice to see you gentlemen here too!
This is a trial effort at posting a photo. If it works I'll post some more. This is the 9.3x74R double that sbs470 wants to take next deer season.

Alex:
You simply needed to include Picture061.jpg after the last forward-slash in your URL.

...but the easiest is to click on the "Direct Link" or "IMG Code" line of code under your thumbnail on the Photobucket album page, and copy/paste it into your post, so you would have

...but without the red spaces.

Hope this helps.

Nice looking double BTW, clean lines, a good work-horse. It brightens my day to see guns being made in Australia, after so many of your predecessors have been shut down by previous Governments. Keep the faith!

Here are the starting pieces for the 577 Double. At the moment just a pair of barrels and some Bohler EN36A and M238 steel

The specs ordered for this rifle are as follows:

Box-lock
Non ejector
Double trigger
Manual safety
Disc strikers
Top extention with cross bolt
Reinforced action
26" barrels
One standing wide "V" rear express sight with silver center line
Regulated to 75 yards
Flip-up "moon" sight
Steel grip cap
De-celorator recoil pad
14-3/4" LOP
Weight requested - approx 13-1/2 to 13-3/4 LBS

Now we need to find the right stock blank

Building it will obviously take some months, but I'll try to post reasonably regular up-dates.

Alex

For me? A rifle just has to "feel right" and as soon as an experienced shooter /user of guns picks one up and shoulders it he or she knows that its right, (if it is) right as in for their personal feel, whether its made by Beer or Holland it has to "feel right"

A gun that feels right will come to the shoulder easily and instantly and then easily be sighted and fired if a fast instant shot needs to be taken or of course a slow steadier shot and thats whether the game is coming at you or going away. I really dont care if that gun is some super name brand or a stock factory brand,it has to "feel right"

The above applies to 22`s or NE`s

Have you taken the double out yet?

Are you going to the Shot Expo?

Hi Alex & Laura.
I will be at the Shot Show unless something arises and have only had one opportunity to test the rifle. It shoots well with 83grns of 2213SC but needs one more grain to archive the recommended velocity.

Adam

FOR ME FUNCTION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THEN CALIBER...DON'T REALLY CARE AS MUCH ON THE OTHERS---IF THE GUN IS BUILT WELL AND WELL PRICED IT WILL SELL ITSELF..IMHO...

Hi Alex & Laura and welcome to NE.com.
You sure have built some fine looking rifles going by those pictures!
Please keep us informed on the progress of the .577 as well as any other work you are doing.

By the way, just wondering are those .577 blanks from Lothar Walther?
