Not looking to buy a $1500 US blank haha. Curious guys, where do you source your wood from? Great place I've found some good wood from locally in the past we'll see if any is stock grade

Cecil Fredi in Las Vegas has some nice stock blanks. You can get a real nice piece of walnut for $500.

"Stock quality wood," means many different things to different people. My opinions: American black walnut should be used only for American made guns, while European and especially English guns---especially quality double rifles/double shotguns, should be stocked with nothing but English walnut; best highest quality DENSEST walnut can be found growing only in dry climates, from old trees 100+ years old, within the root ball, below ground level. Such English walnut is often called French walnut, Turkish walnut, etc., but is all from same tree species, but growing in different climates. American black walnut, and many cross species varities, are little more than junk, in comparison, but are ok for cheap junk American guns.

Plus one for Cecil Fredi. He does not have a web page but will email you pictures of blanks in the price range you desire. He is a good merchant. This rifle is stocked with one of his blanks that I paid less than $500 about 5 years ago.
Given your close proximity to Cecil, it makes sense for you to make the trip and select your blank from his inventory. I would love to look at all that wood.

Check with Bill Dowtin. I've got 2 blanks from him in the past, he usually has a good selection on hand. http://www.oldworldwalnut.com/

In order not to hi-jack this wood thread you can see more of this rifle at:

Pictures are scattered throughout the posts.
Thanks.
