Would the cz bobwhite 20 gauge be suitable for converting to a double rifle? I'm thinking of doing one in 30/30. If there would be a better cartridge to chamber it in I'm open for suggestions.

Have you read Ellis Browns book on building DR's from shotgun actions yet?

This question is answered in there as well as many more that will crop up during the build.

I'll be interested in hearing how the build progresses once you start. I think when it comes to cartridge selection you'll find that there are many "better" choices than 30-30. I think you'll also find that there are just as many reasons why the 30-30 is a better choice than many other cartridges. In the end I think cartridge choice is about what you want to do with it and what you like. I like the long, flanged cases but brass can be hard to find. If the cartridge fits the action, falls within the pressure limitation and provides the performance you want then it is the right cartridge.

I would consider the Bobwhite too weak for the application. I haven't run the breech pressure calculation, but just off the hip having owned a Bobwhite can only say they are not an action I'd want my face behind with a fairly high intensity cartridge like the .30-30 inside. I would be looking for a frame with a cross bolt, double underbite.
