WTB 10b Ball Mould
      #348561 - 28/12/20 11:40 PM

I'm about to become the new owner of a 10b Greener ball gun, and I'll need to feed the beast.

At this point I do not have the gun in hand, so I don't know what diameter I'll need (e.g. set up for paper case or thin brass case).

So now I'm testing the waters to see what is out there available. If you have a 10b ball mould available, please let me know. Vintage, modern, made just yesterday - doesn't matter. I want one that works and works well.

Thanks,
Curl

This appears to be good news, and I have no 10b ball mould.

Naturally, I want to hear more about this Greener...

Yes indeed. For a mould, if you know the diameter you need, Ball Moulds in England, formerly Tanner Moulds until Jeff passed, is now run by his son. I have 4 of these in various sizes, sorry no 10 bore. My largest is .740".
To snip the sprue, they recommend side cutters. I found wire strippers with the little cut touts to be best. Hold the ball in finger and thumb, grab the sprue's shank at the ball's surface, squeeze the handles to cut in about 1/2 way, then turn/twist the ball. The sprue comes off leaving an almost perfectly round ball, with something a tiny little tit that can simply be tapped down using the tripper's jaws.
The resulting ball has no sprue and can be loaded any way you want, nothing to align up or down.

edited to read is NOW run by his son - dang typo

Roscoe,
+1 ballmoulds.com

I have two 12 Bore and an 8 Bore (sorry, no 10 Bore) and the moulds are great. Done to exact diameter you specify.
From order to delivery here in the States is only about 2-3 weeks depending upon how USPS is feeling that week.....

Spectacular double-ten there Curl!
Cased with all the toys too; not to mention "indestructible"!
Congratulations!
Greeners have their own charm, that's for sure.

Looking forward to following your progress getting it up and running.

Can't help with a ten-bore mold, though. Sorry...

With the gun in hand, after a chamber cast and other inspections, I need a mould that throws a 0.807" ball.

Nearly 9 bore! The monster is proofed 10/2 and obviously made for a thin brass case.

First off Cap congratulations on acquiring such a lovely piece, she's in remarkable shape, & has a good 'figure' for a big girl!
Can you let us in on the secret as to how you derive the ball size?
I know there would be internal differences between paper & brass cases, would you need do a cast of your chambers & initial rifling to determine the case length & groove size, minus the patch thickness?
It would be grand to see how you do the complete loading process, powder wads etc!
I know Buckstix makes a star crimper for brass cases, or do you already have one of those in your accessories?
Can't wait for the range report, I reckon she'll do more than just fine!
Cheers

I don't see rifling showing at the muzzle, Curly - is it not there, or of the "invisible" type?

For some reason this reply to this post ended up in another thread. Sorry. But here it is in the correct thread---I hope.

An old time mould maker in UK is back active,

Glenn McQuire is a recently retired as 30 year tool and die maker and has taken over his dads old business. His dad was LEM Moulds.

Glenn recently made me 2-1/4 inch round ball mould for my cannon out mehanite for casting zinc. It is a top quality mould. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/britishmilitariaforums/lem-moulds-first-run-t26821.html

He can make a mould to your specs. glenn.mcquire2@gmail.com

I have Tanner moulds also. Both outfits make top of the line moulds.
