Anyone else interested in getting a barrel to build one. Im looking to get one next month or so. Might get a better deal if we can get up an order for a few.

If anyone wants to go in on a few barrels, this is the time. I'll go in with you dean on one. I will supply the .600 OK-1 reamer to Pac-Nor and if they get an order for three or more the cost goes way down. These barrels are 26 inch CM, 1:20 twist and three groove. I will probably lenthen my chamber to fit the .600-OK-2 3.2 inch case.-Rob

I'll go in for another.

Rob-got the brass today. It was worth the wait. Dieter did a good job and the base to belt dimension is about perfect. Thanks.

John-Have you done anything on the softer type of solids,
that would deform a little?

Dean-If they aren't to much and will make it a little
longer for me, I will get one.Ed

I didnt want to leave anyone hanging. Someone heard me crying I missed the first run and offered to sell me the fixins for one of these cannons. I sent payment off for a barrel, dies, and brass. I will have some extra brass if anyone needs in the future. Wish me luck!
My old man was looking at the pictures of the 600 Ok and asked me what the hell do I need a gun that big for! This is comming from a man who built and drives a 1930 ford with a 427 ford high riser in it.

Fritz454- Yes the brass is really nice. I can probably have dave Kiff re-grind the reamer to more closely match the brass dimensions . That would improve brass life considerably, however, a DGR needs generous chamber dimensions to assure functioning. I'm thinking it over.
Dean- YOU NEED A .600 OK. It's just that simple. If you go with a CZ550 action, I'll give you all the specs off of mine.-Rob

Rob
Thanks I have to buy a barrel and stock for the capstick next. After that Ill start looking for an action. It most likley will be a 550 but one never knows. I hope to get hold of john from bridger today missed him yesterday. I got my 470 dies yesterday look good to me. Now I need some bullets. How do you feel about round nose like the barnes super solids? Mine worked out great on my DG hunt and they seem like they would be much easier to get to feed. I feel that the 470 capstick and the 600 Ok have plenty of push that I wonder about the "need" for the flat nose???

Dean,

The writing of Norbert Hansen clarified the genuine and distinct advantages of a flat nosed solid. Please see the following:

http://www.grosswildjagd.de/penetrat.htm

http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Zielwirkung/Superpenetrator.htm

http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Wild/Elefantenjagd.html

To summarize:

1. The shallowest penetration is achieved with a hemisphereical round nose solid, like a Barnes solid, a TCCI or an A-Square product.

2. Next shallowest penetration is achieved with a more sloping round nose, like a Woodleigh solid.

3. Second best penetration is obtained from a flat nosed solid. Examples include Bridger, GS Custom FN solids, Speer AGS and Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer.

4. Best penetration is obtained when a supercavitation disk is used, found on the Norbert Superpenetrator.

That being said, getting flat nosed solids to feed properly is a little more difficult than getting round noses to feed, but worth the effort.

I have a 600 OK coming in about 4 months from AHR. Has anyone loaded stuff hotter than AHR factory of 900grn bullet at 2200fps? What is recoil like? I have a 585 nyati with loads at 750grn, 2500fps,10300ftlbs. I shoot this out of a 14 lb gun with no muzzle break,it is pretty stiff recoil. Are these comparable in recoil?

How much will a barrel cost? I thinking of getting one sometime so if you need a few more orders, I might be keen. Who do we send the money to?
Also ,what is the situation with cases? Are they going to become more readily available? I wouldnt mind having a look at a case if I can get one.

bigdog,
Do a search over on accurate reloading for the .600 OK. This should give you some load data and results. I think Robgunbuilder took the 900 grain bullet to over 2400 fps.

cr500,
You may want to contact American Hunting Rifles at http://www.hunting-rifles.com/ about the brass. It seems they are getting a shipment of brass soon and are taking orders. I did contact them once and they were very nice.

Just going from memory, I think a .600 OK barrel was US$300, but that was pre-chambered and pre-threaded for the CZ550. Generally a barrel maker is only going to give a bulk discount for an order of 12-15 barrels, and then probably only 10-15% off.

WEll ,I,ll bite the bullet (a bloody big one if it is for the 600 OK) and put a deposit in if you need some more people to make up numbers. Drop me a line if anyone is organising a group order for 600 OK barrels.

msorenso,
I found this May 16, 2004 post by Robgunbuilder over on AR.

"The Cz550 action needs to have the ejection port enlarged considerably and the upper portion of the rear bridge opened for clearance on ejection. The ejector must be modified, The rails milled out then fitted by trial and error by hand. The ramp must also be milled very carefully as to not overly weaken the lower locking lug and then reshaped for the .600 OK bullet nose shape. The bolt has to be opened to .645, To do this the bolt face must be annealed, then cut back about .003 and then re-case hardened. The remaining bottom of the bolt rim needs to be cut to allow the case head to slide up under the extractor hook while maintaining just the proper amount of tension. Of couse the extractor has to be properly re-shaped. Finally, the follower needs to be machined to a different profile, the spring changed and guide rails added to the mag box. The box itself needs to be modified(widenend) to more closely match the cartridge diameter and in addition the bottom of the action must be re-machined to match the new mag box shape. While all this is being done, one should change the CZ trigger and a add M70 Like three position safety. I have a set of complete directions available that I will share with those who are actually building a .600OK. I should add that the front of the CZ action ring still needs to be Trued ,however, I do not typically lap the bolt lugs since this is a short range gun and they appear to be case hardened( not interested in cutting through the case)."

I believe the O.K brass from AHR is made by Dieter Horneber in Germany, he is about to go into production with a new run promised sometime in March so I would try again for some cases after this time
