I guess what I would like to know is what rifle did you use. Was it a cz- 550 safari 458 lott bored out to 550cal? And what is the conversion cost if you already have the rifle and who does the conversion. Last but not least is who make the ammo or is it reloading only? Thank you so much!

Jim Brockman will rebarrel a cz 550 magnum, or ruger RSM for a reasonable sum, for the 550 magnum (3"). Karl Weber, and Ed Plumer will also do this, with Karl building on his own actions.

the 550 express (2.65" case) can be build on either of the above actions... or a win model 70, or ruger 77 action (yes, it's wide enough)

and, of course, anything that shoots the 460 based weatherby cases (including enfields)

... i build the first 550 expres on a vz-24, as a stunt, but it worked out too well for me to just leave it at that. It's a single stack, which is why I don't recommend the mauser action. I'll build the next one on a ruger 77, i think.

Pac-nor, Badger, and Bauska make barrels, in the states

superior ammo is going to offer this as loaded ammo

hawk, alaska bullet works, Pa Bullets (pottsy) and bridger bullets all offer 550 bullets (www.custombrassandbullets.com) as well as cast bullets from www.customcastbullets.com

www.550magnum has good info on the magnum
www.weaponsmith.com has some good information on the express
