A nice handy looking rifle mate, whats the recoil like, won't ask about the muzzle blast, bad enough in my .358 Win.

I was apprehensive of the recoil when I read my digital scale before shooting, but it's surprisingly manageable. A bit brisker than my 375 and 450/400, granted, but perfectly shootable for several rounds in a row. The rifle was perfectly balanced by gunmaker Nate Heineke, which I think makes a big difference. Nate also did the barrel mod and feeding tune-up.

Then the loads are 2150 (more than that in the short barrel and you'd be mostly burning powder for Sounds and Lights...), which is moderate by Lott standards.

No checkering because the original stock was reshaped, and the final sanding and oiling have just been finished. Not sure I'll bother with the checkering, though, it handles pretty well like that and the wood is not that great anyway. I'll probably get a better wood sometime down the line.

I will be doing similar with a 458LOTT but will retain a 23" barrel to minimise muzzle blast.

I am just in the process of fitting cross-bolts and bedding to my .458 Lott, which is on a BRNO 602 action, and I have reduced the barrel length to 22", which I think is an excellent length and still makes a very easy pointing rifle. I should have it finished this weekend and will start load development after that, so I will post some reports and photos shortly.

It would be very interesting to be able to compare the 20" barrel to the 22" and 23" barrels both for handiness, point-ability and in shooting, too.

One question that I 've done since I got my Ceska 458 Lott is whether this cartridge is suitable to stop loading a buffalo or an elephant for example. What do you think ? or for that must exist more suitable as the .50 and higher cartridge. Sorry to get into this thread but I take it you are talking about a 458 rifle Lott. I wish you all Happy New Year.

Ovny, with a .458 Lott you can stop anything on four legs - provided you hit them right, with the right bullet. Same applies to many, many calibers...
