Gents has anyone had work done by John Clapham in the custom CZ550 or general bigbore department?

John sold me my double (new Merkel) and provided excellent service. I had a glitch in the stock after a couple of months, and he told me to send it down to him. He fixed it better than new. He has an excellent reputation for working with big bore rifles.

Thanks Ben I have recieved some promising replies on several forums and emails regards John. I'm sending him a 416 rigby Cz550 shortly and a .530 woodleigh reamed barrel to recreate Geoff mcdonalds early 530/460 wildcat. Should be basically a rebarrel + also making custom dies which he said is no problem.

He'll do an excellent job, I'm sure. His customer service is also excellent. Good bloke to have a yarn to.

john is a very good friend of my family his work is fantastic and he is honest when i got my m70 .458 win he asked me to bring it to him so he could pull it apart and check the m70 out as he hadnt worked on one when he did we found there was no front recoil lug on them so he fitted one up while he was machining the lug i was asking about the .458 lott and the .450 ackely he told me he could do either and the .458 lott would be good but the ackley in his eyes was a whole lot more pain for not alot of gain and i should keep it the way it is and save my money.to me he is a trust worthy down to earth bloke that know's his stuff back to front and i will trust him with any off my rifles and as ben has done i will also be buying my merkel from him one day

good hunting grant

Good advice as the lott is just as powerful as the Ackley and more common to load for.
Thanks for the reply, I may also have to ask him about a merkel in the future too...

He did his apprenticeship at Merkel in Germany, so he knows them inside-out and back-to-front. His personal Merkel double .500NE has killed more than 100 buffalo. Mine has killed just 10.

That is good honest advice. He could have sold you work you didn't need.

When I find a car mechanic that says I didn't need to replace such and such a filter because the old one was still in good condition, I go back to them. They are not going to charge you for shit you don't need.
