A custom rifle from Denmark

Here's a one-off 9.3x62mm big game hunting rifle that we've build. As this is our first post, I'll start off with a short introduction. We're a small manufacturer based in Denmark. Our mission is to build rifles with unparalleled precision, complete in a beautiful and high quality package. To obtain the wanted precision we've insisted on using the good old fashioned way of cutting the rifling, and so we have a 117 year old Pratt & Whitney rifling bench as the heart of our production. Everything is hand made as well.

If you build them as good or better than Schultz and Larsens then you will be producing great firearms. Those photos look superb.

A beautiful rifle. Im generally not a fan of a full length stock, this changes my opion.

It's funny you should mention Schultz & Larsen, there's an interesting story to our rifling machine. I'll copy/paste it for you.

"In the middle of our workshop in Denmark, we have a piece of world history. This very rifling machine was build by Pratt & Whitney in 1895 and since then it has lived a glorious life. It started out working in the U.S. Armory of Springfield Massachusetts, where it, powered by belts from the ceiling, supplied the U.S. military with barrels up until the first World War. Allegedly this machine then found its way to Germany, where it kept working throughout the war until the Versailles peace treaty put a stop to the production of all weaponry in Germany as of January 10th 1920. Afterwards the machine was bought by the Danish rifle maker Schultz & Larsen, and with this machine the company became legendary world wide for its barrels of unparalleled precision. Sadly though, the famous factory in Otterup was shut down in 1994 and all of the equipment was sold. A decade later the machine was recovered by the founder of Jensen Rifle Company and due to its poor state is was given a much needed full restoration. Being 117 years old you'd think that the machine belonged in a museum, but even by todays standards this machine is legendary when it comes to precision. With its new lease on life this machine remains the heart of our production of rifles here in Denmark and so the legendary Danish precision is back."

Welcome to the forum JRC.

That Pratt & Whitney looks a twin to the one I apprenticed on with Lester Bauska. Just wonderful old tools biult in a era when the outcome was the driving force and not cost analysis, or market share, or production costs......


What is the metal finish on your rifle ??? I am assuming Color Case, but some of the photography makes it look chromed witha black wash.

Welcome JRC.

To my eye the rifle looked a bit garish but the more I look at it the more it grows on me. The workmanship looks excellent. If you keep that quality up you should do very well.

The bolt and the bottom of the pistol grip is color case hardened and the rest is hand polished to a glossy finish and then blued (blackened)

Mark De Hass uses one exactly like this one to rifle his world famous muzzleloading barrels.

My brother has a small engineering company in Birmingham, UK, where some of the machines he is using are from the late 1800īs. I remember him telling me on a trip of his to the USA he badly wanted to visit the Alamo which he found a bit disappointing as it was next to a Walmart or something but in the museum there were some rifles or ordnance stamped "Tipton, Birmingham" which we found fascinating ! best

Thank you for the kind words Nitro.

The original plan was to start a production of our own Mauser 98 actions, but at the time it wasn't a viable option and it still isn't. That said, the dream still is to design an action of our own some day, but for now we're using the original FN Mauser 98 or brand new Granite Mountain Mauser 98's. Legendary actions and still the best in the world according to many, so for now we live by the words: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I'll get a rifle down on the shooting range soon and post some pictures of the groups on Facebook for you.
