SHE kicks like a mule.... .950 JDJ...
      #214200 - 08/08/12 12:48 AM

Below is an email I received from a friend..havnt checked its accuracy..but a fun video to watch..

Ripp

Put aside your girly-man .458 Win Mag or your wimpy .50 cal and watch guys shoot a real gun, the largest center fire rifle ever made, the .950 JDJ by SSK Industries. Only three were ever made. This was the lightest, the carbine version, weighing in at 50 lbs. It shoots a .95 caliber 2,400 grain bullet at 2,100 fps using 240 grains of powder, which generates 25,400 f/lbs of muzzle energy and 277 f/lbs of recoil energy. Each round costs $40.

Sorry Ripp- this is not meant nor directed at you.

So --- they - SSK Industries, are claiming their little .950 is the largest CF rifle ever made?

Haven't they been following Colin's Double Barreled 2 bore thread? At Colin's rifle bores of 1.035", SSK's little .950 is sitll at nursing age - yeah - it sucks as "the largest" - it ain't.

Perhaps they missed thread of the single shot 2 bore - another 1.350" bore, he built a year or more ago, or perhaps the 2 bore (slightly undersized, apparently) but still larger than 4 bore build in England I think, or perhaps they weren't aware that our own Omnivourous Bob has shot 2 elephant with his 4 bore rifle whichis also larger than their little .950, - or maybe they just missed seeing some of Ed Huble's work with his own, hand made falling block 4 bore?

Of course, not, they are too full of themselves to even think someone outside their little imaginary world might have beat them to the largest CF ever built. Good grief.

If they meant the Center Fire that developed the greatest FPE or greatest recoil - they should have said that but I still think they'd better check with Ed's ballistics and the recoil of those 2 bores first, before making any "biggest" or "largest" claims.

On the recoil end of it, try plugging in 436.8gr. of black powder with a 1,750gr. ball into the formula and see what you get. Try that same powder charge with a 2,500gr. bullet for the 4 bore.

Colin did mantion his brass cases would hold something like 700gr.+ and then the 3,500gr. ball. Hmmmmmmm. I guess their .950 didn't generate the greatest or largest recoil afterall!

I guess there is nothing new in false advertising - happens so much, many people merely accept it - I don't. It either is, or it ins't. If it isn't, don't say it is.

I do agree with daryl. They do seen like the kind of guys who seem to blow their own trumpet.

I don't really understand wtf it is. Why built it an what's its purpose, seems like an awful miss match. I could understand in a big game rifle.

But with a BR set up and a scout/handgun scope of low power it seems to be something just to show off but has no purpose.

Interesting nevertheless. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. What an embarrassment for SKS Industry.

I can see a purpose, but their choice of a light varmint-type stock rather confused me - not a hutning rifle, but a bench or varmint gun design.

The scope, of course doesn't fit the design of the rifle.

Does anyone other than me remember WW Greener writing (The Gun, etc etc - 9th Edition) how he broke his recol machine with a 12 dram load in a 4 bore - yet that full charge for the 4 bore, is 24% greater? The machine was 'good' to 200 pounds, but the 12 dram load was enough over that, that it broke the machine. That was only 327.6gr. approx. - while the full 16 dram charge conatains 436.8gr. approx.

As Ripp say, this hase been around the net for quite a while - I have friends and aquaintances still sending it to me. It also showed up on a 'friend's' face book page some time ago - I guess I'm getting weary of it's innacuracies and blatent lies.

Actually the 950 is quite abit more powerful than the 2 bore that Colin makes. With modern powder it gets between 24000 and 28000 ft.lbs of energy. The 2 bore cartridge gun gets about 13500 ft.lbs. The double 2 bore is going to weigh in the 44 lb. range. Neither is real practical, but both are pretty cool if you ask me.

Yes - BUT - the .950 is said to be the BIGGEST - which is typical bulltooey.

Ed Huble's big guns make those levels of fpe as well.
