Just for grins....

Anyone out there using the 350gr. Speer Hot Cores on game?

My Taylors shoot this bullet very well, but haven't hit anythig really BIG with them yet. On Whitetails, they seem to just zip on through! We've tried capturing them, unsuccessfully. They seem to be stout enough to use on DG.

Reggie - sounds like an excellent bullet for moose, elk and the big bears - from any angle.

I used three of these bullets as finishing/anchoring shots on a Western Savanna Buffalo in Benin. The report of this hunt can be read somewhere else in this forum.
I carried three rounds loaded with these rather light and soft bullets as medicine against lions, in that particular hunting area in Benin there are some nasty lions, even man-eaters. So when the buffalo was down I just wanted to anchor him as good as possible and shot all three rounds into his heart area with quartering-away shots from a distance of about 10 meters.
Two of the bullets were recovered by the skinners, one was weighing 186 grains, the other 247 grains. That means a weight retention of 53% and 70%, not exactly the performance I expect from a bullet to be used against buffalo.
So I think they are ok for plains game and cats but for heavy thick skinned game I would prefer something more sturdy and heavier. Just MHO of course.
