If this were a perfect world

If this were a perfect world and a person could get ammo anywhere, even in the darkest places of Africa, what caliber or calibers would you pick.

Even if I could get anything anywhere, I'd still go with 270 Winchester and 375H&H as my top 2

From my research I think the .458 winchester magnum or .458 lott, the .375 H&H, and the .30-06 are good choices. The .458 lott of course will shoot the .458 winchester magnum. Those three cover a broad range of hunting opportunities and are common calibers in Africa from what I have been told. I am taking a .375 ruger to Zimbabwe and just pray my ammo makes it too. If I were taking (or owned) a double rifle it would be a .470 Nitro Express. I will have one some day. For now due to financial limitations, my choice is to buy a double rifle, or go to africa, not both unfortunately. I am buying a lottery ticket tonight though. I dare to dream!

There isn't enough room to list them all (given your scenario).

My first three choices would be 318 Westley-Richards, 9.5x66 Von Hofe, and 11.2x72 Schuler.

Agree with above--not enough room on hear to list choices-

However on all I have done so far--have used a 300 and 416 Rem. with very good results--depending on where I am hunting--might take a lighter caliber, ie, .375 along with .470 double..again depending on where I was hunting and what game I might run into while hunting..

One item I learned on the last trip which BigMax is relaying above--in a dangerous game area with ltos of the big 5 running around--the lightest caliber I would take is a .375 and if a heavier caliber was still needed, warranted or wanted..go up from there--having a elephant charging while having a 300 or less in your hand in not a comfortable feeling..

Can't argue with those choices. Also 2 of my favorites.

.338 Winchester magnum and .458 Winchester magnum. Heavy bullet loads only. 250's in the .338, and 500's in the .458. Nothing you cannot do well with these two.

Call me old fashion but I like the old calibers like .333 jeffery with a 300 grain bullet or the 404 jeffery.

Well, in a perfect world I guess a 600 NE would be fun.

Hmmmmmmmm. Make mine a Royal Deluxe in .577NE 24" barrels and a weight of 14.5 pounds and a .600NE with 24" barrels at an even 16 pounds.
