Well, you can never really have too much gun. Remember, it is the field mouse season now that it is May, and getting them square between isn't that easy and they charge when wounded. Best get one of these and put him down with the first round -- to say nothing of the square mile of ground surrounding him. Dave

Were you guys aware that Steve Zihn is making a 2 bore Muzzleloading rifle for a customer? It's not a ctg. gun but then, there is no case to restrict the powder charge.

I have shot a four and it was "interesting" ..

Look at the recoil numbers 545 ft/lbs at 37 fps in a 25# rifle ..

I reckon there is a reason there are a bunch of those numbers in RED

Yes I was aware that Steve was building a 2 bore, because I am machining a part for him. I Shot one of the last 4 bores Steve built, I was apprenticing under him at the time and got the "honor"(said sarcastically) of helping sight it in. I told Steve when we talked about the part last night that I wanted some video of the 2 bore being shot with a full service load.

I'll be waiting (like everyone else here) to see the pictures (and the video) of Steve build his client his two bore. That must be one brave man!

I have a 2 bore black powder gun being built by Steve Zihn. Wt. will be 32 lbs and it has a 36" oct. barrel. Should be here in October. I will see how it shoots then. When are the ones on the 2 bore site actually going to be available??

Gerard Schultz started "GS Custom" bullet making firm. Maybe that has something to do with the "GSC" moniker?
Glad to see bonanza deleted his boner falsehoods.

Of course "GS" also stands for "Gina Schultz," Gerard's daughter. She is now "company owner" according to Gerard.

Of course "GS" also stands for "Good Shooting."

I was up at Steve's last week and held your rifle, and I think the only real comment I have about it is "Just holding the thing makes me cringe", and I've shot the 4 bore a couple of times so I'm not intimidated by big bores. Just an opinion on my part but it seems like you should go ahead and have the pivot mount built while you are at it, cause I couldn't keep it on target from an off-hand hold for more than about 15 seconds, it's a heavy monster, but I think not heavy enough for me to want to be the one pulling the trigger.

Cowboy, Steve and I thought the gun would end up weighing about 28 lbs, but it is coming in at about 21 - 22 lbs. Both of my 4 bore doubles weigh right at 26 lbs. I think with the black powder, I would have liked the extra weight. Does it look good? Steve's camera batteries are out so I have not seen a picture of it yet. He is working on the ebony grip cap and forearm tip right now. He is figuring to be complete with it in about a month. When I get it I will get someone to post some pics of it. thanks

Yeah, it looks very nice, he was doing the in-letting on the ebony the last day I saw it.
I do have a question for you though, "WHY??????"

All I can say is " A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do ". Because I all ready have an 8 bore and a 4 bore, so a 2 bore sounded logical, and Steve agreed to take on the project. Sort of a one of a kind.

I am doing "curls" working on this gun. It reminds me of my USMC days packing an M-60.
Kinda heavy.

But when I look at the huge "shaft of air" in the barrel, I think it would be ok with me if this rifle weighed 100 pounds.

cowboy
I will probably try to get 1200 to 1350 ft/sec with it. I don't see shooting it at 1500 ft/sec since it is only going to weigh 21-22 lbs.

Why such a piddely load?
Are there neighbors closer than the next time zone or something?

(Shelling your neighbors is probably illegal in Illinois.)

Only handguns in Chicago. I am 6 hours south of there, lots of hunting and fishing down here. Except for East St. Louis and Chicago, the rest of the state is fairly pro gun. Too bad Chicago likes to and gets to run everything!!
