A new hunter !
      #60356 - 26/07/06 04:58 AM

On the first hunting day in South Africa my son Alexander 10 years old has taken two Impalas, the first a female and the second one a male, both were taken at the same waterhole within two hours this afternoon. PH is Frederik Cocquyt aka Safari-Hunt

Alexander and me with his old female impala that had grey hair on her head.

Alexander with his 20 inch Impala ram.

Some traditional rituals took place

Sundowner with his PH Safari-Hunt, next one has to wait many years.

Our friend Hans-Olof Andersson also from Sweden shot a nice Duiker.

I will be back with more reports from our camp during our 7 day hunt here in South Africa

Congratulations to Alexander, well done. Did he get some sweet meat from the ram?

At the looks of it, Hans gave that Duiker a perfect shot. Congrats to him as well.

Congratulations to Alexander. And also to Christer, Frederik and Hans.

Good to see the young fellow out on safari and no doubt it was fun for you too. I think the impala skull and horns, or shoulder mount will look really nice on Alexander's wall. A good start.

Christer,

Congratualtions with the start of your sons hunting career!

I can only imagine the pride you feel, and look forward to teaching my two babies the joy of hunting when they get past the diaper stage.

Back in Amsterdam and in a few hours we will be at home again. Alexander liked it very much and I am a very proud father.

For some reason we could not log in on NE from the bush so here is the remaining photos.

Hunting 2 Alexander shot a Duiker in the morning

I finally got to shot something, first an Impala and than a double on Jackals

Safari-Hunt shot a warthog when we had a siesta

Hans-Olof also took an Impala

Hans-Olof with a Jackal

Hans-Olof with a Warthog

This great Gemsbock was taken by Hans-Olof on the third hunting day, it is around 40 inch on both horns

Alexander shot a huge Warthog at 11.30 today at a waterhole. Tusks were 12+11 outside and body is close to 100 kilogram.

Alexander with his warthog

The huge tusker

Alexander, me and Frederik posing behind the big tusker.

We sat in a blind when Frederik saw a warthog coming in, Alexander shot as soon as he had an opportunity and the warthog ran away. We could not find any blood but could see on the video that the bullet never exited. We tracked the warthog 200 meter without finding any blood and there he was, turned towards us as been ready for a fighting end.

Rifle used was Alexanders Varberger Super Light Kevlar in 308 Win loaded with Rhino bullets in 150 grains.

Hans-Olof shot a Steenbok

Just at the Limpopo River he got a nice Bushbok

Red Heartebeast and a happy hunter

All of us with the Red Heartebeast

Finally I got a Warthog the last day

Hans-Olof with his second Warthog

Last hour Alexander got to shot a Steenbok

I must say I had a hard time to leave them on the airport they were begging me to stay longer last night.

Overall we had a very good hunt I think the funniest thing was that CChunter only bagged 5 animals and let his son start off his great hunting career. What a great daddy he his.

Hans olof got a super gemsbuck and a great bushbuck after a hard hunt on foot in the thick limpopo bush next to the river walking on hippo paths.

On the last hunting morning after trekking soem good kudu bulls that outsmarted us we moved to a diffrent area and was lucky enough to bag a very nice hartebees bull with fine horns. I must say that hunt was also one of my best moments of the hunt.

I must tell you that Alexandre was very very very proud of himself wehn finding out that the wartie he shot is probably bigger that his dad's.

Even though some of the photos are the same or from the same animals and trophies I enjoyed this hunt very much. And I'm especially honored to bring a new hunter to the field. Hopefully in a couple of years time my son will go the same path and bag his first animal.

What Christer did however left from his post his that the shot on the impala ewe was perfectly executed. She almost dropped on the spot on the heart shot. What was also a bonus is that Alexander could follow the ewe untill she dropped 50 meters further without the worry of her being wounded.

The warthog what can I say I think this photo shows the real size of this hog. You don't find warthogs this size around every bush. This was a diffcult shot as it was a angled shot and time was short I could see that he sensed us and we had to let fly. But without hesitation Alexander let fly as soon as I gave him the go ahead. The hit looked very good and after the video replay we saw the bullet didn't exit. We tracked him for about 150meters before I started to worry about the trcaks with so many numerous warthog tracks around the area. I told Christer to stand and wait and had a hunch that the tracks I followed suddenly veered to the right and that it could be him. And voila the warthog was lying facing us 50 meters from where I left Christer them. Not a speck of blood the whole way the bullet entered in the shoulder from the front at an angle taking out both lungs. A perfectly exucuted shot again

Just another pic of the warthog sow I shot I think we took great care in taking great photos which makes the trip so much more rewarding. Doesn't she look peacefull and dignified ?

After the great kudus gave us the slip I decided to move to another area and look for red hartebeest I think Hans Olof saw a red hartebeest on his second day of the hunt and that is when he decided to have one since thay are such great animals. Spotting impalas a mere 30 meters from us we took a stand ebhind a raisin bush looking for a good impala ram when suddenly Hans Olof took my attetion to the left where a darker bodied animal was grazing at frist glance I thought it was a old impala ram but then saw the horns and told Hans olof to take him. The hartbees was standing in a bit of a depression making him impala height giving me a scare as well on the body size but teh horns didn't lie. Hans olof acted quickly and bagged this magnificent bull he was old but his points never started to grow horisontal instead keeping high and pointed very unique.
