WW2 Blitz trucks and lions

Not Africa but ...

Stories from the Road Museum Australia

And speaking of second lives for ex WWII Blitz trucks...
This just wasn’t Allen Johnson’s day. First, his truck laden with waste water from the hippopotamus pool tipped up on its end at the Bacchus Marsh lion park. Then, he had to scramble to maximum height to escape the attention of a pride of curious lions before being rescued by park attendants

They used to be everywhere once, in sawmills with cranes ,on farms ,neighbour we had, got all his fencing redone by a fencer with two of them ,remember going and sitting in them to see what they were like ,then they all seemed to disappear ,there was a bloke in Queensland ,who went around and bought them all up ,he was an obnoxious individual who wanted to buy them and other mil vehicles, so no one else could have them ,thinks his name was someone Hughes

They were how many people got started. My father was one of them. First vehicle after a Motor bike the farm truck come courting transport then shopping transport.
There are photos of me in the basinet between the seats behind the gear sticks.
I drove one as the district fire truck years later.
I learnt how to keep the points adjusted and the bronze up on the valve push rods for correct length.
Much easier now days.
