Back to Africa again
      #266818 - 22/06/15 04:19 PM

Well it looks like I'm off to Africa again, albeit in 12 months time.

Things have been very tight for me lately (last couple of years) and I thought it would be a long time before I got back over. I was wrong.....

My first hunt over there in 2001 was with my mate, Jason. He was married and had three kids. He couldn't afford to go, but I wanted my mate along. So since I was earning reasonable money and had no financial commitments at the time, I paid for his hunt.
Jobs done, a great time was had, etc etc etc.

At the SCI dinner this year he starts bidding on a hunt in South Africa. It was for 2 hunters and 2 non hunters for 6 days including trophy fees for 4 animals. I looked at him and thought WTF are you doing.
I assumed it would be he and his older son hunting and his wife and youngest son non hunting. Well, he got this hunt at a stupid low price and I said I'd have to get Cameron's (his oldest boy) rifle organised.
Him "Cameron's not hunting"
Me "who is then"
Him "you"
Me "Mate I can't afford to throw in with this, I'm broke"
Him "You did this for me 14 years ago, now it's my turn"

I'm not ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye.

Heartwarming.

That speaks a lot about friendship.

Your friend won a couple of friends on this forum, that has to be said.

Well done to Jason and glad to see you are getting back there again, after the problem you had with a previous booking. Good luck and hope it all goes well and we get to enjoy your safari here on NE afterwards with some photos and stories.
