My buffalo mount is done!
      #205257 - 16/03/12 10:36 AM

The mount of my Cape Buffalo that I shot in Zimbabwe last summer is done!

"I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so. Lions and leopards and rhinos excite me but don't frighten me. But that buff is so big and mean and ugly and hard to stop, and vindictive and cruel and surly and ornery. He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money. He looks like he is hunting you...He makes me sick in the stomach, and he makes my hands sweat, and he dries out my throat and my lips."

Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953

The taxidermy work was done by Anthony Maxwell of Maxwell Wildlife Artistry in Ceres, California.

That's the face I saw looking through my scope and he had bad intentions for the puny humans staring at him across the clearing.

Here's a cell phone picture to guage the size of the bull, I'm 6'2" tall.

That is awesome, absolutely awesome.

One of the nicest I have seen and I agree,
it definitely has that glint in the eye.

Fjold that is a very nice buffalo mount. It will look very good in your trophy room.

Nice shape on the horns and good bosses too.

+1

Your going to have to put him in the back room out of sight otherwise you will never get any work done.

Just Joking Mate, a lovely trophy and one to be proud of, Great Taxidermy, Well Done,

One of the most realistic-looking mounts I've seen (not that I've seen many).

By the way, how do you get your zebra hide hanging so nicely?

Nice... congratulations on a great trophy credit to Anthony Maxwell for taxidermy work.
Any details of hunt/ calibre rifle would be good. Thanks Mick

If ruak had met my mother in law he would have added as shifty and sly as a sheet eating heyena. At least you know the buffs intentions.

Thanks all, Anthony does fantastic work I couldn't be any happier with the quality of the mount.

I sewed rings on the backer to hang it with picture hooks and then used black upholstery tacks around the black border to flatten it out.

That was taken with my left handed model 70 in 375 H&H using the 300 grain TSX and banded solids.

I posted the full hunt report last June here:

One of the best buffalo mounts I have ever seen who says size matters when the mount is done so well its an old boy and he has the look doesnt matter if he's not wide.

Very nice bull, btw - congrats!

Found this old post while looking for some taxidermy examples.

Gryphon, should stop grinding his teeth and come back. Many mornings are bright and sunny, eh? Positiveness is a good way to live life.

I must source those Fjold photos and load them up on our server to get rid of those awful photobucket tags. That company never learns a lesson in how to service customers and potential customers.

Great taxidermy. One of the best Buff mounts I have seen.

Congratulations on a fine animal. With the grey face, solid meeting horn boss he looks old. Do you have any idea of his age?

Great taxidermy! Now the question is how well will it hold up over time.

This is my last buffalo, taken in Kenya in 1975, just before the hunting ban went into effect.

This is the head mount, almost 44 years later.
