Here are a few Buff.

From July 2006. Took 5 shots from my 416 Rigby! 350 grain TSX. Longest shot was 30 yards in some pretty thick stuff. Exciting!

Check out the horn structure on this old cow from the Makuti Safari Area in October 2010. She had 2 teeth remaining. Perfect harvest from a conservation standpoint!

This is a cow taken by my oldest son in July 2009. I got to help out on this one with the 500 NE!

This is a cow taken by my youngest son in the Makuti Safari Area in June 2011. Used for leopard bait. Must have been a lucky buff as we got the cat!

Buff is still my favorite hunt. Enjoy the pics!

Cheers,

Todd

Here are the two cow cape buff my son and I shot in the Omay of Zimbabwe, hunting with Martin Pietes safaris. My son and I had a helluva great time hunting together for them as well as hippo and tuskless ele.

Dan with his buff.

Me, with mine.

Bloody long horns! Would make an interesting and much sought after trophy.

Hog Pilot and Mad dog,

Did you get to keep the horns, skull, cape or whatever from these cow buffs taken, especially if taken as bait for cats?

Or hunted as cow buff trophies?

I reckon I'm going to go for a cow buff on a future safari, even though I'd really like another cape buff bull as well.

Yes John. I was able to keep them all. Being a non CITES animal makes the difference between Buff cows and Tuskless Ele's in regards to leaving the country with them, I suppose.

By the way, that pic posted by Powdersmoke just doesn't look like a bull to me in any way shape or form. The horns are very thin and there is NO boss that I can make out. Am I wrong on this? It certainly is wide but looks more like that big cow that Dick Cabela took several years ago to me. Anyone know the details on it and are there any photos from a different angle. It appears to me that the angle was purposefully taken from as low as possible in order to avoid exposing the top of the boss area. It looks closer to the cow Maddog posted with the wide spread. What do you think?

Cheers,

Todd

Here´s one from the Selous 2 weeks ago, saw a lot of buff but nothing better than the one I have here already, LAST day we ran into this chap after 9 days hard hunting, up at 3.30 am everyday, back at 7.30, bloody hard work, he isn´t huge but he was worth it,
best

Hi Mike,

Well done Sir, you say that it isn't a 'Monster' but I bet you will never regret taking him and those hard yards and long days proves that it and he was meant to be. You have every right to be a proud hunter, I would be.

Cheers for now,

Jeff Gray

Mike,
Ok, Did the darling (H&H) get scratched ?

You get top marks for choice on brand of scope! Did H&H recommend it or was it your choice?

Todd,

I was wondering as sometimes for the "bait" animals the outfitter does not allow a trophy to be taken. Which seems a waste.

Looks like a cow to me too. If it was on the wall as a shoulder mount, a cow for sure.

Still a magnificent long set of horns. Worth taking it whether a cow or not.

Ha ha, either Oz is romantically interested in you, especially seeing that H&H, or he is asking whether "you scratched your darling new H&H?" My guess anyway.

Anyone else got a guess to add.

Ahhh, got you, scratched ???? It pissed down with rain for the first two days, tried to keep the barrels down but.... wiped her off after day one, opened cleaning kit, no oil ! used 3 in one but day four had that horrible reddish liquid under ejector rods, took off locks and dumped locks in oil for 5 mins, no probs but she goes into Hollands end Oct for a full service after 2 safaris and 3 monterias, the girl is carrying the scars The Buff involved an 11km stalk, a lot on my back and front, the rifle was nearly as gritty as me !

This is my first (attempt) at a post, but it seems like the right place for me. I have enjoyed browsing the site for a few months, but now I look forward to participating. Anyway, if this works the photo will show my Zimbabwean Bull taken in Chete in 2008.

Looking forward to being a member, and yes, at this point in my life all I really want to hunt is Cape Buffalo.

Best to all,

Edward

Well done mate.

I think we need a full "hunt report" and "rifle report" to start you off.

No problem, do I do that here as a response or somewhere else? Sorry - I'm new at this so I want to follow protocol. If it's a hunt report would it be better to start that as an independent thread?

Thanks NitroX,

The PH (Richard Cooke) said he was no less than 10 and Kevin Robertson looked at my pictures when we were in Dallas and he judged him at 11 years old.

First of all, welcome to NitroExpress. Glad you decided to join in.

As far as posting a hunt report, you can post it in this forum, the African Hunting Forum, on a new thread. Thanks.

The Hunt Reports Report Forum is more designed as a forum for posting more clinical reports on the successes or failures of a hunt, positive or negative aspects of outfitters, agents, concessions etc. But some members post stories there too.
