The British Army has been using the L129A1 for a number of years now as its sharpshooter rifle. A 7.62mm. It's as AR10 style rifle built by Lewis Machine Tool and acquired in quite large numbers. One or two are in each infantry platoon to give longer range fire as required. It's also used as the Sniper support weapon, in partnership with Accuracy International 338 Lapua. In the former its fitted with a 6x optic, in the latter with Schnidt and Bender 3 to 12x scope that double duties as spare for the sniper rifle in case its cope goes down.

I would question whether the OP is correct. Certainly this side of the pond there has been nothing talked about it readopting . Indeed is FN FAL or SLR still in production anywhere. They were good solid battle rifles, but technology and the world has move on.

I believe the orginal pictures date from 2021 and it was a spoof or joke put out by a number of veterens

Yes it's spoof status was pointed out pretty much straight away.

Interesting the video and new rifle.

How many different types of ammo does a squad have to carry nowadays?

Why not go to the 6.5x55 for everything?

Types ammo carried in a platoon - quite a few.

5.56 Nato - for the general squad rifles
7.62 Nato - for the sharp shooter and as link for the GPMG
9x19mm - for Pistols
12 guage - for semi auto shotgun - used for breeching doors etc. and for close range support.

Then you add in 40mm underslung grenade launchers, plus hand grenades etc.

Sniper pairs tend to be independent of main platoons so will carry own ammo. 338 Lapua for long gun, 7.62 for support weapon and 9mm for pistols

I've shot a BAR. Accounts describing the difficulty controlling a burst are true.

From what I have read the BAR was not exceptionally reliable, was heavy and awkward so might as well have the Bren. Now to be technical, both the BAR and Bren are light machineguns, not rifles.
