I have one in my gun room..new..never fired with the original box..have one other in 300H&H..but not new..very used..but is going to get redone a bit.. original stock is damaged..

Alas the price in France is quite "exclusive" as very few of these fine rifles have been imported on the Continent.
Now it's very difficult and costly to import one from US while they are sought after not only by collectors but also by vintage lover hunters.

Thank you. These Pre-64, specially the pre-II WW, are not "fine" rifles but very well made. Functioning without any flaw and really accurate with almost match grade barrels.
I have one, a .375 H&H made in 1953, well used, first by a South African who brought the rifle here, some 35 years ago when I bought it from him. I never met him personally and missed the stories this rifle surely has to tell...
I use it, mainly, as a big Red Deer rifle.

I have a few pre-64 70's and 54's. If you find one with nice dark wood, especially the supergrades, they are close to being fine rifles in my opinion. They are fine without question when it comes to out of the box accuracy and mechanical function. The lines are also especially nice.

You put in the right words what I wanted to say! Thanks.
By the way, my .375 H&H loads 4 rounds in the magazine, designed to do it, and cicles them as if there were no cartidges at all! The smoothest rifle I have to load, fire and eject their cartidges.

I have one in 30-06 that, according to the serial number register, was made in 1937, second year of production. lovely condition, hardly used, very smooth and accurate. Unfortunately , the previous owner had scope mounts fitted so it’s not totally original, but still a wonderful rifle to hunt with. My sons have banned me from taking it Sambar hunting as it gets too scratched in the dense bush. I suspect that they are thinking of the inheritance collection.

Ripp, good idea to get that one re-done. It will be a pre-64 so worth spending the money on and in a ripper cartridge. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

My favourite rifle - smooth working and just feels RIGHT!

1st 2 groups at 100 meters with it's iron sights. Top one, 1.798", second, a 4 shot group went 1.632".

Daryl, which caliber is your lovely rifle; sorry for asking if I missed this info in your post!

All, thank you for your replies; it's good to see that "pre-64" attract such deserved attention even if they are not often discussed on the Forum. I personally do not owned any, that's a shame I know, but one have to make choices at some point and (try to) hold good resolutions!

My rifle is stamped, .30GOV'T'06 This rifle was number stamped in September of 1936, 5 1/2 months after the model 70's were first manufactured. It has a rudder safety. swinging to the left in 3 positions, rather then the out-swinging later 3-position safety.
After I posted pictures of this rifle a couple years ago, Xausa, NE member, sent me the Lyman Aperture sight the rifle came with.

Any interest in a detachable bottom metal here for the pre-64 Model 70? It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while but need to test the market.

Very nice rifles. Got the pre 64 bug myself. Not a lot of opportunities over here. Occasionally get lucky and find them. I have a supergrade in 7x57 a bit of a rarity in the super grade.
Just picked up a Westerner in 264WM and awaiting its arrival.

That rifle is gorgeous!

I love my 3 pre 64s. My 300 H&H is my everything rifle.

The most smooth rifle ive ever cycled is my 300 Ackley mag that I bought to use for another project. I was thinking maybe a .318 or .333. The american action and your beautiful stock would be a fantastic combination!

I've only ever seen one in the flesh so to speak - in the US when on holidays!
Unfortunately it was a very definite "NO" from the Minister of War & Finance.....bugger!!!!!

My Pre 64 M70 Featherweight .308 - go to hunting rifle.

Have been shooting this rifle since early 1970s and have tuned to fit me as follows:
Free floated barrel
Recoil Pad
Honed trigger to perfect 4 pound pull
Magna ported to reduce muzzle jump
Still wears original Leupold M8 4x scope which has not been adjusted in over 20 years
After first 20 years, had metal and wood refinished
Best group when new was 5 shots in 5/8 inch - still shoots sub MOA

Fantastic Joel, the Model 70 always seems to look extra special when you build one. The scope and mounts fit really nicely as well.
