Would have been a good buy the 9.3x64mm
Was that also a pre 64 M70 on the table as well?

Certainly some nice pieces of kit there!
Terrible going to a place like that, so many lovely pieces...damn these short arms & long pockets!

The 1830 serial # is a 1934 model 70, along with about 7 to 9 others- all running $550.00 to $825 for the .375H&H.

Yes- the 9.3x64 s a good buy. A German fellow there said the claw mounts are almost $1,000.00US now + the price of the Zeise scope.

Along with the rifle, also goes 300 rounds (minimum, I think) of RWS brass, box of factory loads + the loading dies and shell holder.

This is the first time I've gotten into any thread at nitroexpress.com in a week.

This Saturday is Heritage Day at the Range, open to all.

Upon registration, the general public will be invited to pay $5.00 for 5 to 10 shots, depending on the gun, for small bore (.22 LR Silhouette) rifle, large bore rifle (prob. some .303's and SKS's), black powder muzzleloaders (Ron and I), IPSC handguns, cowboy action and/or trap.

Taylor will be on the the Cowboy Action range with some of his guns for people to shoot.

I'll be over on the rifle range with my Verner Long Rifle, along with big Ron and his S. Hawken,in .58. The people will get to shoot at some cowboy action targets - maybe Evil Roy or maybe just some large 'playing card plates" at about 50 to 75 yards from a rest.

The cowboys will have some pistol ctg. rifles - Colt Lightening in .45 Colt, Winchester 73 .45 Colt, orig.92 in .44-40, a Henry .45 Colt, Hammer SxS 12 bores & all manner of revolvers and cap and ball revolvers- all shooting at plates.

Sporting clays or trap as well.

This will be about the 5th time for us and is always well attended by the town's people.

Incidentally, those early m70's were stamped 30GOV06 on the barrel behind the rear sight.

The 5 or 6 .300H&H's were all stamped .300 H&H (I think).

Have to get a 'special' transport permit to take them there and back home again. The standard transport permit allows taking to a gunsmith, or to the range and home again.

Some guys have a carry permit - for carry when guiding, but I think, only for when after wounded game.

The other permit to carry was a prospector's permit, or for carrying on a trap line.

The odd Policeman received a special carry permit if heavily threatened & had documentation to that effect.

When I left Corrections, I suspect I could have applied for one of those due to maggot death threats against me and threats of rape and death against my family by other maggots, but did not pursue it.

Those Pre 64 M70's are very much sought after especially here, & I have only ever seen 1 & it was in the US!
Bugger being 1/2 a world away, no wonder you're sooking Gryphon those prices are a bargain even with our exchange rate difference!
Fingers crossed for you Big D.

Absolutely, and 5 or 6 of them were still .300H&H's, not rechambered to .300 WTBY as many were.
