Parker Hale Rifle Identification
      #240313 - 08/01/14 09:28 AM

Hi Fellow uses
I have recently acquired a newer Parker Hale rifle in 30:06 with Mauser action. (I just love a 30:06!!!) I cant attach pics because it seem this forum does not allow me to attach them. Its a newer rifle I think by the marks, its made early to mid 80's. But I cant work out what model it is. Apart from proof marks it has no markings (yes Ive taken it apart) but I "think" its a 1000 or 1100 But it might be a safari? as there it a metal pin thru the forend of the stock. I think its some sort of recoil pin/lug. There is a goats head engraved/pressed on the aluminum magazine floor plate, and the trigger has aluminum parts. The it no forend sharbelling ( yes I know I have not spelt that correctly). It has no recoil pad, just a hard plastic plate. It checkered both stock and forend. Its a mauser action and I think Santa Barbara but Im not sure of that either because it only has one marking on the bolt a "U with an underscore". Also the last three numbers on the serial number are also etched on the bolt. Can anyone give me some advice on where I might go or how I might get a positive ID on the rifle?
Cheers and thanks in advance

To attach photo's you need to first upload them to a photograph "hosting" site like photobucket before they can be 'published' to a site such as nitroexpress.

The Parker Hales are good rifles. My match rifle was a TX1200 in .308, back in 1974.

Daryl Ive got them in Dropbox and I know Im going to sound stupid but I dont see a Publish Button,
Re the PH, you dont have to convince me of the quality. I continue to remain staggered that these rifles with Commercial 98 mauser controlled round feed actions are so cheap.

Also; if anyone else is reading this can you please tell me how to publish or add the photos

Interesting username - so I googled it, and it makes sense since you also fish for a hobby, and also where you live.

They worked for me.
Funny you should love a 30-06 and my pet caliber is the 303 British.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with the new rifle.

I'm pretty sure your Parker Hale rifle is the "STANDARD 1000 Series".
It looks to be in great condition!

Bidyanus1
You have the Model 1000 - to some folks this was the "standard" model.......far from standard they are, a good honest working rifle that looks & shoots just fine.
Never had a bad one!
I have the 1100 in 7x57 (lightened model) & a 1200 in .308Norma Magnum.
Can't go wrong with these rifles mate!
Seen one in .404 Jeffery - being a young fellow then I thought I'd never use it, been kicking myself some 30 years later ever since!
Bloody brilliant pick up mate

"Some folks" include Parker Hale themselves, who have always used the "Standard" description for the Model 1000 or 1000 Series.
It was the base model without some of the "frills" found on the 1100 and 1200 series.

As you say, they are great rifles.

I've owned and hunted with the early "Parker Hale Safari" rifles.
These were the Safari Standard in 30-06, Safari Deluxe in 243, and Safari Super in 270.
Later on Parker Hale used the description 1000 Series or Model 1000 for the "Standard", 1100 Series or Model 1100 for the "Deluxe", and 1200 Series or Model 1200 for the "Super".

OK thankyou to all of you who contributed, 1000 model it is!!! But yes, not for one moment did I think I had a bad rifle. Thats why I purchased it and it is in almost new condition. Im not even sure if apart from proofing its even be fired in anger. $650 Australian. As I said before I can understand why Parker Hale with a mauser 98 Commercial actions go so cheap. Really I just dont get it.

Oh and FYI I intend to mount an Aimpoint 9000L with 2 MOA dot on it as that will more suit the type Deer of hunting I do. Im not a person that shoots them from 200 metres away. Im not that good a shot. I stalk Sambar in heavy bush so most of my shooting is done roughly 15 to 60 metres away.

But 1 last question, the action, is there any way to tell if its Santa Barbara or as Ive heard some suggest Zastava?

Cheers

Bidyanus

If you take it out of the stock and look on the side of the tang, it may have a small section ground away. This is where it used to say "SPAIN". These were the Santa Barbara actions.

OK Team more questions. Its definitely a Parker Hale 1000. Rest assured Im am unable to identify where the action was made but there are pics above. I think its probabaly a santa barbara but Im not 100% sure. ANYWAY Ive been trying to find some instructions on how to take the santa barbara mauser 98 bolt apart. But the closest I can find is what looks like the Zastava. Does anyone know if it is the same as a Zastava, or does anyone have of know where the instructions to take the Santa Barbara bolt apart are?
Thanks in advance

Parker Hale Model 81 (I believe the model was called) I think they were. In .375 H&H Mag, .404 Jeffery and .458 Win Mag.

I had use of a .404 Parker Hale M81 for a short time and also have been kicking myself ever since. If only one would cheaply pass near by to me again ...

Interesting, this website does not agree with my recollection of which model was which? Calling the model - Model 1100M Lightweight African. No matter though.

http://www.bluebookofgunvalues.com/Gun_V...LES_BOLT_ACTION

All Parker-Hale rifle importation was discontinued in 1991. Parker-Hale bolt action rifles utilize the Mauser M98 action and were offered in a variety of configurations. A single set trigger option was introduced in 1984 on most models, which allows either "hair trigger" or conventional single stage operation - add $85. Parker-Hale also used the Brno Model ZG-47 action. Please see the Brno section for this model.

Other than the "Midland 2100" I think they are usually good value.

I think finding one as the basis for my .318 WR project would be good or a suitable CZ 550.
