My new trophy room.

I have needed to build a trophy room for awhile with all the ones I have stacked in a corner of the shed.
I took a week off and a mate and I built it to save some coin.

Decided to close in 1/2 of under my house and turn it into a trophy room/man cave.

A major concern was that in the big floods water will got through this room so we built it like a big bathroom.
It is 6.5m x 6.5m square and the whole slab has 20mm of fall to the centre where there is a 100mm waste pipe that drains down the back yard.
The sheeting inside is 18mm marine ply and the bottom sheets of "Prime line" are removable to dry the walls out if needed.
If we do get another big flood I will carry the trophies up stairs.

Still a couple of things to do like build my bar (got the local saw mill dude to cut me a slab @ 2.4m long and 1m wide). Putting a pool table in and a big screen tv.

A few more animals to hang when they get here like my Sambar, Red stag, Banteng and another Buff.

Here is a few photo's of the build as we went.

Hired a mini digger from Roma to do the earth works (good fun).




The hard bit was two of us wheeling 25 tons of cement under the house.

Built "Bulk heads" to cover up the I beams.



Insulated the walls.


Sound proofed the roof.


Threw up the marine ply and I was ready for a beer at this stage.


After painting the roof , cement floor and staining the walls it was time to hang the trophies.

The electrician is coming Thursday to finish up and give me some lights and power.

You should be rightly proud of the room and trophies. But what is that green bandage looking thing there?

Made up a bit of a tribute to my oldies and our home place "Benandre" this morning.

The piece of timber was cut by my Father from an Iron bark tree on our place when he was under going Chemo. He was to take it easy and was going to build Mum a coffee table but didn't happen because he had the stroke.
The brands were ours and I have now registered our cattle symbol brand as well our sheep brands in my name.
Rabbits were a source of income for many cockies along the river when the rabbit works was open in Texas. The Handpiece was my Fathers as well as the mulesing shears.

Looks great mate, having know, respected and loved your Dad (and Mum)for years I know he would love what you have done. The respect and care you have shown for both of your hunting heritage is testament to his influence on your life. I am proud to have known both of you and know that the time spent at Benandre listening to your Dad and you interact has made me a better man and I am certainly a vastly better hunter for having known you and Gavin.

Right enough drivel haha I must go back to work (yes on New Years Day) but a great job mate :-)

Great work, I couldn't do it as I don't have the building skills. Was the concrete from a truck cement mixer or a smaller one? Seeing it all had to be wheelbarrowed in?

Should be a fun "man cave".

I need one, as all of my stuff is spread out between the house, a shed, two shipping containers, have forgetten more than half of what is there.

I would love to see what your brand is? We have a sheep one, which is quite cool.

Very nice.

I like the number of mounts acting as visual reminders of your many good times in the field. Your display of family items to include the piece of timber that your father cut from the iron bark tree is a nice touch. Having lost my father not all that long ago I can understand how items that to others may appear unassuming can mean a great deal to one understanding their origins. Now that they’re all together you’ll be able to sit down, scan the room and enjoy the many memories that will come pouring in.

Well deserved & well thought out mancave!
Just to let you know Carl who works here in Townsville with me has been diagnosed with what appears to be another cancer, had one cut off his lip & now looks like its spread to his lymph glands under his jaw - hopefully he'll find out just how far its gone this coming Monday or thereabouts.
Looking forward to more of your hunts

Hey Neale, job well done!! How long ago was the trip to Africa? We have a hunt booked in Namibia in May and would appreciate all the help I can get as to travelling with firearms and getting trophies back. Thanks
