Unexpected trophy
      #231622 - 25/06/13 04:14 PM

Driving back home after a short pig hunt my wife spotted some goats I hadn't seen before. They were about 500 yards away so I parked the vehicle and started walking towards them with the intent of head shooting a couple of little ones for meat.

I got the wind right and followed them into the Mulga regrowth and started to look for an "eater" when I saw a big black billy making his way through the mob.

I stalked in close with my best camo on...........
Couple of the nanny's smelt me but couldn't see me and started sneezing at me in warning to the others.
The black billy wasted no time (how they get big I guess) and bolted. I gave him a bit of lead at around 40 yards and hit him with a 250 grain RN Woodleigh out of my Husky 9.3x57.

He measured 43.5"

Here he is with my priviest best goat of 42.5".

What a great weekend (turned over 1001 pigs for 2013) and I'm glad my wife was with me to celebrate my trophy goat.

Well done Neil. He is a good one. One trophy that has eluded me is a big stinky. The Flinders billies have always been smaller at least the ones I seen - except for one that eluded us!

The trees in your photo look dead? Has it been "chained" in the past sometime?

That's one wide rack! Way to go - good 'change step' mid stalk! From meat bag to trophy - BLAM! I suspect you really like that sweet shooter, Neale. They're special!

The trees do appear as if drowned due to the high water marks. I'm not sure about salt as the downed timber doesn't show the white and some trees stain white - even here if long under water.

That is one huge goat, I use to hunt them on Catalina Island off the California coast with a bow. I've never seen one even close to those two, Congrats!!!
