Some oldies (but goodies)
      #206098 - 28/03/12 12:20 PM

I apologise if members have seen some of these before but i thought I'd post a couple more photos (getting about 10 years old now).

Most are of a good mate and his buffs in the days before we started to measure but most are well over 100 points. We had this area pretty much to ourselves before the pro safari hunters moved in, so now off to discover 'new' country... and leave the PHs and their clients to have some fun.

finishing off shot. walking in the thick stuff.

Always needed to push things to the limit - 458 BRNO 550gr woodleighs

One of mine - wish i had measured this one. But back then we didn't think much of it. At least i have the photo i guess. Weatherby Vanguard 338wm. We used maily the 458 and occassionally the 338wm for long shots. Not long after this i purchased a Ruger 416Rigby. Great rifle - bloody heavy though for carrying (i needed a gun porter)

416 Rigby - head shot (previous post)

Found this one in the depths of the hard drive.

we had to follow this wounded buff into some rather thicker bush. I had a scope gun (and the camera) and pete had the 45-70. I think we both graduated to bigger rifles after this. not a nice feeling looking at a buff staring back at us, no more then 5 metres away and hoping he didn't charge.

G'day Mick, you are certainly correct. He just pushed a little too hard...

Say hi to your family, hope things are all good.

cheers
Dan

How old is that Marlin, Dan?

None of their modern .45/70s that I've seen have full magazines.

Paul, the older Marlin 1894's have a full length magazine in 45/70. Also the Winchester 1886 45/70 has a full length mag. Mick
