Not my first choice for engraving but it is amazing where porn turns up.

Not even a Farquharson either...
If anything, the porno engraving makes this gun worth even less than if it was left alone.

I've seen several guns with porno engraving, some tasteful, some dreadful, some artistic, some crude. I think this one fits somewhere in between all of those. The best I saw was a 42 Win in a gun shop outside Atlanta years ago. It had a well executed lady laid back exposing her genitalia in ALL its glory! Nice engraving with detailed gold work. Best I recall, on the other side of of the frame was the lady in a different pose with a small, gold, curious bunny staring straight into the 'honey hole'. My girlfriend was with me at the time and the shop owner forewarned us both. She was typically openminded but a bit embarrassed this time due to the graphic quality of the work. I was actually somewhat entranced by it, as it was some of the first, truly high grade engraving I'd seen on a modern gun, and of course the subject matter kind of 'drew' me in!!! I've never seen nor heard any mention of that gun since which I've always thought odd in this internet savvy, know everything time.

I've got some well done pics of porno engravings of women on sideplates (somewhere) but that engraving is very funny.

And the tag on top of the close ups to hide the rude bits.

this rifle was engraved for Larry Flint of Hustler Magazine fame and that the man in the scenes is him. We have not been able to confirm this but the fellow in the scenes bears a striking resemblance to a young Mr. Flint.

But who is the girl?

This special rifle is worth keeping for posterity.

Quote:

This Auguste Francotte Farquharson single shot rifle is chambered for the venerable 7X57mm cartridge and beautifully stocked and engraved. The engraving was done by Master Engravers Neil Hermsen (pornographic scenes) and Ronald Powell (scroll work). Included is a letter from Mr. Hermsen dated March 17, 1987 confirming that he and Mr. Powell did the engraving to this rifle. Now; the interesting part: It has come to us that this rifle was engraved for Larry Flint of Hustler Magazine fame and that the man in the scenes is him. We have not been able to confirm this but the fellow in the scenes bears a striking resemblance to a young Mr. Flint. As for the rifle: It is fully stocked with elegant lines in what appears to be French walnut with an ebony forearm tip that has a slight Schnabel flair. The double bordered checkering is flawless and seems to be about 20 lines per inch. The barrel is engraved with “Auguste Francotte Liege” on top and mounts a ramped front sight, three leaf express sight (with platinum center lines) and a tasteful single band of gold inlay at the breech. 99% of blue is present with one tiny scratch about 7” from the muzzle. The frame retains 98% blue with very slight thinning rearmost edge of the cartridge channel and some thinning from safety movement (when the safety is on a platinum “S” is exposed). There are two slight grain checks on the left side of the forearm where it meets the frame that are more pronounced in the photos than “in person” (we didn’t notice them until we saw the photos). These appear to be from age rather than stress. An unusual contrast of the elegant and inelegant.

The naughty bits have been covered up by the original site.

This particular rifle is not that interesting, IMO. Rather plain, and the obvious question of taste....
But the falling block action is interesting.
It is certainly not a "Farquharson", and maybe also not a Francotte.

I have a rifle with a very similar action, with some German proof marks. The action and breech block have "crown-over-B" and "crown-over-U", for further marks I would have to take it apart.
Barrel is a post-WWII replacement with Munich proofmarks.
I believe the action was made pre-WWII in the Suhl area, but have no idea about the maker.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Fuhrmann

Front sight is rather heinous. Really the lines on the gun just don't flow at all for me. There is no "golden rule" of design applied here.

Not to mention how stupid the engraving is, truly tasteless, but then thats how Larry really is.
