Making a Mannlicher style stock for my Lithgow. This is for a pantograh pattern hence the join.
I made the snobble from a Mauser end cap/bayonet lug.

The barrel was originally a Sportco 303-25, but I had a couple hundred 7x57 rimmed cases left when I sold my BRNO 7x57r-12ga combination...cases are almost identical and I also have a Lithgow in 7x57r but I'm doing the stock in a Daniel Fraser style.

.013" difference in head diameter is all, along with the attendant case capacity difference.

1st I've heard of it. I was just comparing the 7x57R to .303 case.
The .257 Roberts is based on the (7 or 8) 57mm case, as-is the 6mm Remington.

The 7x57R is a perfect conversion for the LE. When I did mine back on the '80's, it was fitted with a take-off barrel from my '08 Brazilian Mauser....no other changes, mag, feeding...all fine.

And then if you did you could mark the caliber on the barrel as I did on my conversion of a Dutch 1895 Mannlicher to 275 Rigby Rimmed

That’s going to be a super cool little rifle !!!!!! I have a friend who’s 94 and he loves his “257 Bob” !!!!! He told me he shot his 100th deer last year (with a .257) and he is planning on making it 101 this season with his 257.
Can’t wait to see yours finished !!!!!!!!

If you're interested Daryl, this is the article that first got me interested in using the x57R case ....

Thanks Roger. Good article. I wasn't sure about the pressure in the old SMLE, but knew about anything would be fine in a good #4.
In the SMLE with a working pressure of 45,000CUP, that seems a as good place to call home, as any. I see absolutely no reason to make 42,000 the limit.
I think when writers do things like that, they are virtue signalling only.

Will make a nice rifle - similar to the BSA No2 carbine "for officers' use".

One VERY cool thing about those Enfields, is the extractor will handle from .22 Hornet all the way up to .45/70 without alteration.

Will be interested to watch this project.

Been interested in the 7x57R/.303 as I have loads of x57R cases.

FWIW you already have cases & likely know this already, but if you need more and cannot find 7x57R, the .444 Marlin may suffice. It is a bit short but should "grow" in necking a bit and otherwise the dimensions should work.

The other good thing about .444 Marlin brass is the heavily constructed web at the case-head.
Much thicker brass web than any other cartridge case, period!
Provides a good margin of safety in a rear-locking action, when pushing pressures a bit.

I have been running a poor-man's .375 JDJ in a 1941 Lithgow No.1 Mk.III for about three decades now and it loves the 250gr Sierra SBT.
Makes Group 1 Nitro for Big Game Rifle competition all day long, and has killed a bunch of buffalo.

IMHO the .444 is a great choice for donor brass in the Smellie.
