Guessing competition - win ........
      #2402 - 19/04/03 12:02 AM

Have a look at the following photo and guess ....

Guess the following:

1. Which country the photo is taken in;
2. What decade this shoot was held; and
3. What game animals this bunch of desparadoes are hunting?

Here is a hint, the hunt took place on the King's Birthday holiday weekend each year for about seventy years.

Bonus question - what is the man eleventh from the left wearing (seventh from left standing)?

The first person to get three answers right (or closest to them) - either the three numbered questions or two from the three and the bonus question wins the following book.

One of Jim Corbett's excellent books on hunting the maneaters of India.

Just a w.a.g., but could it be Australia in the 1890's, and hunting kangaroos?

No hints yet as I hope to see more tries soon.

A lot of hints are in the photo. You just need to look more closely.

You can have more than one try.

Now that is not the spirit. Have a go!

OK we have a winner - super-sleuth Gryphon who pretty well got it all, except for the bonus question. Sorry not skulls, but creative idea.

The country is Australia. In the Barossa Valley and the building behind is the Stockwell Hotel. The group was called the Stockwell Hunt Club.

The year is 1919, and the picture was taken as part of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Club in 1894. The Club continued until the 1950's or 60's.

Game hunted was foxes and hares with points being awarded for them. Rabbits were also shot but being extremely common no points were awarded for bunnies. The winner of the shoot is the one wearing the "?" and he was given a certain title.

A historical article will shortly be printed in the Ezine on the Stockwell Hunt Club.

A new competition will be on the next message.

(Gryphon I will send you an email)

New Guessing competition - new questions [Re: NitroX]
      #2457 - 22/04/03 10:58 PM

A new competition

1. Guess what the winner of the shoot is wearing (the eleventh man from the left - seventh standing from the left)?

2. What is his awarded title for winning the shoot by shooting the most hares and foxes?

3. Which man in the picture is my Grandfather ???
(please say whether he is standing or sitting and the number of persons from the left or right). A hint - his nickname was the "Little Major".

Closest combination of answers wins a copy of another of Corbett's book - "The Maneaters of Kumaon"

****

Just out of interest. I do not know the answer, can anyone identify the three flags ?
