I think I now have the second largest .577 NE brass collection in the US with 60 pieces, Curl, having the largest.

I gotcha both beat. I have about the 160 pieces total, all being BELL Brass with about 20 being Bertam.

Well, I had about 160 pieces until my old man starts trying to reload.

And 125 grains of RL 15 work well in my .577 3"

Holy cow....thats the kids college education right there.

I'm gona' cry when one of my crummy Bertrams splits..I know its going to happen though.

Whats funny though, is that I hear 450#2 brass is even MORE expensive. Ouch!

bigdog:

I don't recall the 115 load's velocity, but when I worked them it, 125 grains was the sweet spot getting slightly under 2050 ft/sec.

Hey,

On your Greener, did the smith bore the mono-block out to a larger dimension? If so how big?

Thanks,

I'll take some measurements on the weekend and let you know. ...but pretty sure that the monoblock was reamed to the diameter of the rim-recess of the original 12-bore chamber, as is standard practice for re-sleeving any shotgun.

BS,

I recently loaded some 577 NE loads for a friend's Demas and started out with 107 grains of RL 15 with both 650 and 750 grain cast bullets. This was all my measure would dump in one throw. It shot great with both weights. Bullets were within 1 1/2 inches and the two weights were within 3 inches of each other. I have not chronographed it but it shoots so good that who cares. I used Federal 215 primers and a combination of card and fiber wads to fill airspace. I use 28 guage fiber wads and punch out the card wads.

If you get the chance and chrono the 650gr load please let us now the speed of it. And also what moulds are you using and where to get hold of them?
What action did you end up with for your 577?

This was a friend's Demas 577 double. Mine isn't here yet. The gun I loaded for is not close by so I can't chrono the loads anytime soon. The moulds I used were Veral Smith's LBT that I had him make for me. I have 450,650 and 750 grain moulds. All with the long flat nose. I plan on getting a 550 grain made also. Veral's moulds are very fairly priced for the quality you get. He will make just about anything you want. I did load some of the 450 grain bullets in this 577 but had some ignition problems. Need to crimp bullets better with that square bullet, not much to hang on to. With the 450 grain I used the same powder charge and they shot into the same groups baring a Kur-thunk.

Hi again, is it possible to get the order number for the 650gr mould you bought, that one would probably be the one i want.

I will look and see if it has a number or if I can find the invoice. Its is a great shaped bullet and about the right weight. The 750 really isn't much fun to shoot.

My LBT mould only has .585 650 LFN on it. The bullet has approx. .440 mepat and two grease grooves with a crimp groove. Email Veral at LBT with what you want, I'm sure he would make whatever you want.

Blain

I use Bertram brass in my 450 No2. I have some cases that have been reloaded @30 times and are still going strong. I have yet to loose one.

Here are some Nitro for Black loads for the 577 3", so you might want to reduce them a little to start in your 2 3/4" double.

101gr of Varget, 650gr bullet, 1850fps at 7.8tpsi [tons per square inch]

78.5gr of IMR 4198 650gr bullet, 1840fps at 8,9tpsi

You must use filler with these loads.

I have used Nitro for Black loads with IMR 4198 in my 450 No2 and in my 450/400 3 1/4" with dacron filler, with lead and jacketed bullets.

I have also shot a fair amount of game with a 286gr .035jkt Hawk in a 9,3x74R and in my 450/400 with a 300gr .025jkt, and one pig with a 400gr .035 Hawk bullets.

They work great.

First, do you need to size it? See what diameter your mould throws with selected alloys before you get carried away.

If you have ordered oversize with the intention of sizing down, that's different. You can have sizing dies custom made if needed, but it appears that web catalogues may reflect only the more commonly requested sizes.

Eg at Buffalo Arms:

Custom Lubrisizer Dies

If you don't see the size you need for your Black Powder Cartridge needs, please give us a call and we will see what we can do. You can order sizes from .250 through .590 in .001 increments. Thanks.

I havent got the mould yeat, so i will check and see what diameter it produces.

But if i would need one where do i get it? I could offcorse make one myself but im not sure how the lube thing is working.
