My H&R Ultra Slug 12 ga rifle is "Old Reliable." I have a favorite fishing spot by the same name.

I have a 500 X 3 1/4" double nitro for black. This rifle shoots wonderfully well with 440 gr jacketed buttets and light nitro loads but will not shoot black powder and lead,no way at all.
Over the years I have tried every thing to make this combination work but to no avail
I therefore call the damn thing " THE ANTI CHRIST' because it's not a true believer and myself as the ALCHEMIST trying to preform magic. whenever we do battle .it's the Alchemist Vs The Antichrist

I used to call my 36 cal., Southern Mountain flintlock "Abraham" but, had no particular reason for the name other than it just always felt like a patriarch.

I don't hunt 5% of what I used to so all those fond niceties sort of fell by the wayside.

My grown up kids and grandchildren all call my Mauser 404 the "elephant gun". Three of the boys are in their 30's and 40's and having fired the 404 with cast bullets they decided that is enough for them and haven't fired it with full power loads.
They all use 7mm-08's or my 7mmWSM, all having suppressors with built in muzzle brakes so they do not know what real recoil is. Their gas operated shotguns are as close as they get to anything with a bit of recoil.

Like a lot of situations these times, grandpa is a bigger man than the kids and grandkids. Hopefully they see the eyes of the world through grandpa and look further afield.

I remember my Dad showing the cannon shell of a .30-06 of mine to a distant relative. They though it was an elephant cartridge.

I remember as a kid thinking a .577 Snider round was the biggest cartridge on Earth.

PS I wanted one back then already.

Funny you should mention the snider. My cousin's dad had a carbine and 2 ctgs. We also thought it was a huge ctg., but somehow knew it was English Military round of the late 1800's.

That triple 4 SxS is pretty cool! What's the ROTwist? does it handle 300gr. well. My Marlin did well with those at 2,200fps
& the Hornady was tougher than it looked.
Of course, must have a DC 300gr. mould for it.

The Rizzini uses standard 444 Marlin barrels which are 1/38" twist.
The double is regulated for the Hornady 265 LeveRevolution ammo so I haven't done much with 300's in it.
I have calculated, using the Miller twist formula, that as little as a 1/30" twist would take care of most any 44 bullet and stability of the longer bullets would no longer be an issue.
The newer 444's with 1/20" twist (and "normal" rifling) I think is a little overkill in the twist department.
I suspect they do that because that is the standard twist for the 44 Magnum and such barrels are cheaper and easier to acquire.

Here is my Remington rolling block in 45-70 that I call "Mutt".

It is an original Remington #1 action.

It has an unknown tapered barrel 30 inches long.

It has an unknown hooded target sight'

It has replica 1873 Winchester ladder sight.

It has a Pedersoli rear long-range sight.

It has a cleaning rod and thimbles like a Ballard Pacific rifle.

It has the forearm attached by a wedge and key, like the Hawken shop (and others) used to do.

It has a poured pewter nose cap like a Tennessee rifle (and others)

It has a Winchester butt plate.

It has a custom hand made American Walnut stock and forearm.

Thinking of adding the vintage brass Wollensak 4 power rifle scope.
