.600 Nitro Express handgun, anyone?
      #13695 - 19/04/04 03:56 PM

Well, here it is, gents. When I first saw this one on-line, I thought I'd misread the caliber: A REVOLVER chambered for the .600 Nitro Express! (Just what the gentleman hunter needs to pack on his hip when two "quick ones" from his .600 NE double prove to be insufficient medicine to stop an angry pachyderm!

The revolver is of German manufacture and is indeed one helluva handful. Some info on this hand cannon, see the
maker's Home page (albeit in German):

http://www.pfeifer-waffen.at/cms/index.php

On the maker's Home page (above), scroll down and click on "Pfeifer Zeliska Revolver." (Too bad I don't read German.)

There is a more lengthy report available on this handgun, but it still is in German and in the form of a .pdf file. The .pdf file, of course, requires the Adobe Reader to access it. The latest version (6.0) of Adobe's Reader is available at Adobe's website as a free download. I did try to post the .pdf link here, but wasn't successful.

If you're curious and can read German--or have a translation program available--just do an on-line search for "Pfeifer-Zelinska Revolver." An on-line seach will also yield a couple of other somewhat abbreviated reports on this .600 NE handgun. One of these would certainly get the attention at the local shooting range!

Anyone interested?

Regards,

It seems there is no shortage of idiots, no matter what country you go to! What a useless waste of good steel! One thing, though, it deffenetly qualifies as a BIG BORE!

For the price quoted,14000 Euro you could probably get a double rifle in that caliber.

Leave it to the always logical germans to come up with a solution to the problem of being stomped by an enraged beast. The recoil from this handgun will propel you back faster than said beast can run.

Maybe it's time for another DIRTY HARRY movie, but with the weight of this thing, ole' Harry would need to enlist his partner as a gun bearer!

WOW, that really is big. This thing makes the .500 S&W Mag. look like a childs toy. Personally I don't think I would fire it due to the fact that I don't want a permenant imprint of the gun on my forhead. But it is cool none the less...

I have shot a 450 Marlin in an Encore pistol with a 10 inch barrel. The was some nasty recoil, I would hate to feel the 600NE in a handgun.

I can't stand the rifle much less a pistol..I would recommend that you save the second shot for yourself.

Come on it wouldn't be that bad, well it would, but the half the fun of big bores is the recoil!!! Obviously it's completely over the top and inpracticle, as the .500S&W is all you really need for hunting and the 500 would probably be far more accurate. But the 600NE is BIGGER, and that's all that counts in most cases. If you want to complain about big handguns then this is the one you should be complaining about... (I'm not quite sure if it counts as a handgun though)

The world's largest revolver weighs 45 kg (99.2 lb), has a length of 1.26 m (49.6 in), a height of 40 cm (15.7 in) and is a working, scaled-up copy of a Remington 1859. It was built by Ryszard Tobys of Czempin, Poland and test-fired on July 15, 2002. The gun holds 6 bullets, each weighing 136 g (4.7 oz), with a caliber of 28 mm (1.1 in).

Between May 31 and June 2, 2002, the titanic revolver was used in a shooting competition between NATO Reserve Forces from Great Britain, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. After three days of firing the fantastic firearm, the prize went to representatives from the Czech Republic.

Forget all, what you've heard until now about Magnum revolvers! Here the absolute Megahammer comes. The strongest revolver of the world measured by the muzzle energy. Cal. . 600 Nitro Magnum. This revolver has each single part handmade and fitted. Therefore a single package, which represents an absolute mastery in performance at Büchsenmacherkunst, emerges. Through the relatively high weight, shooting is possible for a practiced Magnum shooter. No remaining damages emerge therefore at the wrist.

There is also a model available in Cal. . 458 Win. Mag. Whereby here natural the ammunition price is lower substantially.

Technical data: - caliber:. 600 Nitro express,. 458 Winchester Magnum. - Ordinance 462m/s, Full metal jacket bullet 900 grain - Muzzle energy:
6,230 joule - weight: 12 lbs.

I thought that the old "Howdah" double revolvers were that most powerful? They were 4 bore as I remember?
